This fiction novel was written over 100 years ago and portrays American history during the prohibition. George Babbit is a real estate agent who is in a conservative group of society. He briefly turns liberal after his friend goes to jail for shooting his wife. George’s rebellion is ended during the event of his wife having surgery for appendicitis. The story ends with George siding with his son who eloped and decides to drop out of college to become a mechanic. George states that he recognizes that his son is doing what he wants to do and not being bullied into adhering to others expectations. I believe this is the take home message. ( )
