How I love my Time-Life Nature Library. I started reading these when I was about eight and could only deal with the captions because the text was much too long for me to comprehend. Today I'll rescue volumes I do not possess from thrift stores. This volume was very low on captions, alas. The author seemed to feel that contemporary forest management would solve the ills of clear-cutting. How optimistic they were way back when.
