... they are writing. I don't want it to become stripped down generic so that "I'll understand." I just read Hugh Laurie's The Gun Seller and had a lot of fun looking up all of the British slang and expressions with which I was unfamiliar. I can't imagine what it would have been like if they ...

9. Just finished: The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. (***) *Edited to add rating.

I hope to finish The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie today or tomorrow. It started off pretty slow, but somewhere around page 160 I realized that I had at some point fallen in love with it. Laurie's love of language is obvious and often hilarious. I'll then start The War for the Oaks by Emma ...

... off from their financial resources, and suddenly became aware that the government was turning against them. I just started The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. While I loved The Handmaid's Tale, I needed to follow it up with something lighter and more comedic.

The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. I've had a hardback copy of it since about 1996. He's never followed it up - something about being distracted by an offer to play a cranky limping doctor in a TV show in America, apparently.

Technology is wonderful! I hope you enjoy The Gun Seller. I will definitely read his next book.

I've only just found your thread, so I'm going to go back a bit and refer to Book 7 - The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. I'm also a huge fan of his, back from his days on "Blackadder" and "A Little Bit of Fry and Laurie", but I haven't read this book yet. However, I do have it as a PDF file on my ...

Finished another one... #7 The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie, 339 pages Yes, I admit it. I only read The Gun Seller because Hugh Laurie wrote it. The book is okay, just okay. It was a fun read, but I did not find it engaging. There are very funny lines in the book and that's ...

>52 Mac, I thought The Gun Seller was disappointing. I was expecting something a bit more scintillating! - TT

Msg #31, Georgia Dawn, I take it from your comment that you didn't like The Gun Seller? I read it a couple of years ago and, while the story was a bit forced, I really enjoyed Laurie's voice in his writing. The sarcastic tone was fun to read, even if the story was kinda outlandish. Msg #43, B ...

cal - I made the mistake of picking up The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie so it's part of the swap now. Why do we do this to ourselves?? drneutron - I've looked at the "no spoilers" thread and I'm trying to stay away from the other one.

2. The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie I don't generally read a lot of spy type books - read this one because it's by Hugh Laurie - but it was fun. Even if I wasn't always clear on what was going on.

I finished Shelf Life (at long last). Current books are The Gun Seller and Pride and Prejudice.

... YA fantasy/mystery), and Sweet Love. Still ongoing is my vampire anthology reading, and I just started The Gun Seller (I'm a Jeeves & Wooster fan and was tickled when I heard Hugh Laurie wrote a book).

Please see my second post for a list of the 46 books I read this year.

Oh, what about The Gun Seller - it is a wry comedy version of an international action flick (there are drug dealers, attempted contract killings, dastardly government officials, etc).

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie Hapgood by Tom Stoppard The Iliad by Homer Jumpers by Tom Stoppard

38. The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. Enjoyed it, but had trouble keeping the characters straight. A little assist on that from the author would have helped a great deal. I'm starting to worry that I might not hit my 50 book mark by the end of the year. I confess to having chosen some slim ...

I have read and reviewed The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie and quite liked it. Pilgrimess - welcome! I'd like you to read and review Prince by Ib Michael. Please choose for me from my ample tbr pile.

The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie The Zap Gun by Philip K Dick Time Bomb by Jonathan Kellerman Season of the Machete by James Patterson Episode of the Wandering Knife by Mary Roberts Rinehart

... What a great game! I really like the idea of somebody else having to pick out my books for me. ireed110, you should read The Gun Seller. I read it last year and loved it. Pick out whatever you like for me, preferably from the TBR tags - please be kind.

Hi!! Glad you enjoyed The Gun Seller... Apparently Mr. Laurie has a new book titled Paper Soldiers which is scheduled for release in 2009... At least we still have "House" while we're waiting :)

21) The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie **** I first became acquainted with Laurie through his titular role on the medical drama House MD. I found out he had written a novel, and though detective/spy fiction isn't usually my thing I just had to read it. It has all the action, twists, and hairy ...

#5- The Gun Seller is our book club pick for March. I haven't picked up yet, but I need to. I love YA novels, but was really put off by its premise. I'm not much for spy novels, movies, etc. Glad to hear a positive review!

Finished The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie which i really enjoyed despite the fact that it was a spy spoof (espionage not really being my thing) and am now reading Little Girls In Pretty Boxes by Joan Ryan

5. The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie Not a fan of spy novels but the writing got me... one of the few books i smiled through almost from beginning to end... Looking forward to his next novel in 2009!!!

Finished The Historian and am now reading The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie - i kind of like to mix it up!!!

I loved Stephen Fry (and Hugh Laurie) in the "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" series. Not very Dutch, but the precedent was set.

Hugh Laurie's The Gun Seller. It was a birthday present in 1996. His subsequent transformation into a hobbling, grumpy American doctor still hasn't got it off the shelves.

2. The gun seller (A balek) by Hugh Laurie in Hungarian It is impossible to buy it in English here! The Hungarian title means 'The dupe' (I think :) ). I don't know which one fits better :). I enjoyed this book very much. Hugh Laurie is a very talented man.

Finished The Gun Seller and am now thoroughly enjoying Life With Jeeves.

Still working through The Gun Seller. I love it, just between work and Netflix it's hard to find time. Next up is Life With Jeeves.

The Gun Seller is the one I own. The Paper Soldier reportedly doesn't exist. But if it does, I shall find it. Oh, yes, I shall.

#50 - Which one? The Gun Seller or The Paper Soldier? And what's with the touchstones?!!! }:o|

#34 ellevee The Gun Seller is one of my all-time favourites!! And you're not crazy, I tend to hear Thomas Lang's dialogue in Hugh Laurie's voice. :) I wish they'd make a movie of it starring him! (Edited because it's 12:30 in the morning and apparently I can't write a coherent sentence!)

The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie (yes, Dr. House). It's one of the funniest, cleverest books I've read in ages. I love it. And it honestly has nothing to do with my love for the author - although I will admit I keep hearing it in my head as his voice. Because I'm crazy. Finished Stiff ...

... like, 'I'm gonna fall, and I am NOT gonna try and soften the blow.' He falls a lot on 'Fry & Laurie.' I haven't read The Gun Seller yet, to motivate myself to read all the other books I have. It's sitting back in New York, cold and alone on my desk, unread... OK, now I'm depressed. And ...

We should send the guy who writes XKCD a fan letter. Because he's awesome. So. Got home yesterday, and found The Gun Seller waiting for me in all its glory. I spent about ten minutes giggling with excitement. But no Bizarro Starter Kit, even though THAT was the one that was expected to be ...

At Borders: Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim, to make up for the copy my family swiped. On Amazon: The Gun Seller, because Hugh Laurie is all kinds of awesome, and The Bizarro Starter Kit, because I've been meaning to get it for years. I have a PROBLEM.

busy91 in Book talk : Actors who write books (Mar 16, 2007, 12:41pm)

I have read most of Stephen Fry. I am waiting on The Gun Seller to free up in the library. I have read Wil Wheaton - Just a Geek and have on my 'to read' list another book by him entitled Dancing Barefoot.

... well-known actor ... he was great in a recent-ish movie about making a movie about Tristram Shandy ... also, I have The gun seller on my TBR shelf, and that's supposed to be a pretty good novel by the actor from the TV show "House" ... and of course there's the noted author/actor Willia ...

... this one was particularly good Thank You, Jeeves (more Wodehouse) - fun as always Right now I'm in the middle of The Gun Seller, Breaking the Spell, and The Courtier and the Heretic, all of which are pretty good, but I'm in the mood for something new. Must...finish...half-read...bo ...

**Did he sign it?? eBay, baby.. eBay. You bet! ('It' being The Gun Seller.) Very nicely dedicated, along with Three Bits of Fry and Laurie which is also signed by Stephen Fry. (One wrote 'No!', the other 'Yes!', on seeing that the first one had signed it. I cannot remember without ...
