For an all-American family, full of joy, warmth, and love. It is a good book to teach kids to be happy the way they are. A meaningful story about an interracial family. The book celebrates all races and conveys they despite your color, the normal activities occur day to day. The illustrations are colorful and blended. They are busy and convey much meaning to the story. Diversity in classroom. Great for grades k-3. Describes in verse a family with a brown-skinned mother, white-skinned father, two children, and their various relatives. Drawn with pastals. Fiction. This book introduces the idea of mixed couples. This book shows how different people look. It also shows that the couple has a child that is of mixed race. It shows that their family life is the same as everyone elses. The book has a great story line. it shows the differences in races in the illustrations of the book. The characters were believeable. The last illustration in the book showed the people the same color. I believed that this was important when this book was written because at that time interracial relationships was not done very often in the United States. It was one of the first books to be realeased on this subject.. The theme was great in keeping up with the times. I really liked this book. I grew up in this time and know the trials and tribulations mixed children had then. This is an important subject in teaching young children, making them realize everyone is alike no matter what color. In a classroom today ask the children how many of them know people of mixed race. Have the children do a reflection on what they thought of the book. The children could also draw a picture of their families, since each family looks different. no reviews | add a review
