I have Inkspell in my TBR pile. I can't wait to read it! Is The Subtle Knife a reread or first time read for you? :) I finished Inkspell. Know Im reading The Subtle Knife I think I like all the books in His Dark Materials for different reasons--but The Subtle Knife definitely does have the qualities of both other books to a certain extent, and of course it ends on a suspenseful note rather than a concluding note of conclusion. ... lady but there is strong and indepedent and then there is rude and somewhat obnoxious. Unlike most people I really liked the subtle knife which is the middle book best of all. Maybe its because it is the book in which we meet Will, the "hero" of the series. The Subtle Knife was my favourite of the three too!! It just zipped along nicely and kept my interest throughout (1 and 3 I had no problem putting down to do other things: I do a lot of reading at work as I work at an order desk where I'm the one calling customers for orders ... ... over some of the stuff you are reading or have read and I really like your selections. Finally finished The Subtle Knife and it was pretty good! only one more to go in the series!! But first...I need to read my Advanced copy I got from B&N The Sister. Anyway here goes:
1. The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman

5. The Girl with the pearl earring by Tracy ... ... non-fiction list -- I repeat, that's the non-fiction list -- opens with (wait for it...) Philip Pullman's The Subtle Knife. Other items include Henry VI, Part 1 (23), and The Black Tulip (28, no touchstone) ... That's how old I was when I first read The Golden Compass, and I found it pretty confusing and wasn't inspired to read The Subtle Knife when it came out. But I like to think I was mature....
On the bright side, I think this means that The Subtle Knife was the book that had been on my TB ... After reading The Subtle Knife I decided that I would leave in our library but I would not recommend to anyone who isn't a mature sixth grader who is already reading a lot of similar fiction. It really isn't for younger children but is definitely YA and up. 7. The Subtle Knife. Like The Golden Compass, I felt like I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have, and I'm not sure why. ... half of them. I figure the ridigity of that one balances nicely with the extreme flexibility of this one.
Also, I read The Subtle Knife. I don't know why I didn't like it more; there were parts that were really good, but other parts seemed to drag. It also made me wonder about what ... Rereading The Subtle Knife. Just what I need, light and easy to sink into. I am trying to get through The Amber Spyglass right now, but I'm really losing speed on it. I loved The Subtle Knife, but this one just seems a kind of let down after that.
Next up: Sergei Lukyanenko's Night Watch. My friends have been gushing about the whole series, so I'm hoping it'll ... Best fiction, new reads: The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman, Pixel Juice by Jeff Noon. I liked the other two books in His Dark Materials, but The Subtle Knife was my favourite.
I have bests that I re-read this year too, including the Vurt series (all four books) by Noon and Heart of Darkness ... Heh, lots of people reading Philip Pullman this week. I've just started rereading The Subtle Knife. ... in this book that makes it enjoyable to read all the way to end!!
Now going to read Book 2 of 'His Dark Material' series The Subtle Knife ... ... The Unforgiven by Patricia MacDonald...really a good mystery/thriller that had interesting twists!!! Now on to The Subtle Knife book 2 of the Dark Material series...Loved the Golden Compass so shall be interesting to read!
