I found myself not able to really relate -thank god- since I've never experienced addiction (except, you know, for books and chocolate). It gave me more insight ... ... So I decided to abandoned it. I too thought Million Little Pieces was hard to take well before the controversy hit the media. I knew enought about the "recovery industry" to recognize the hyperbole.

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey I'm reading James Frey's A Million Little Pieces, but I don't know whether to classify it as non-fic or not. # 81 - Reportedly (who knows how true this is), he originally wanted to publish A Million Little Pieces as a novel, but his publisher/agent/editor insisted it would sell better as a memoir.
Could all be a load of excrement. But I think getting publicly chewed out by Ms. Winfrey is certainly ... #72 I read A Million Little Pieces before all the drama and BS started, and I followed the whole thing very closely. My opinion? The book is wonderful, and really affected me personally. Beyond that, I don't care. He shouldn't have lied, of course, but he did, and that doesn't take away from the ... ... the beautiful prose and the way the author played with words, making new words and new meanings.

I don't care what anyone says about the contents of this book being "invented". I think this book was great! It was a very absorbing and dramatic look at drug and alcohol rehab. I imagine that recovery from ... ... if I bought an Oprah selection!
But my snobbery -- or maybe it's just personal prejudice -- does extend to books like A Million Little Pieces which I consider part of the the "Messed Up Young Person Sees the Light and Bares Soul (Real or Imagined) for as Much Publicity and Money as Possible ... ... reads.
Now Oprah is back on the right road. She chose Night -- which I thought was an excellent selection. She chose A Million Little Pieces which was a great book (although I know it was "invented"). Nevertheless, it had a great impact on me.
I was sorry when Oprah gave up her book ... ... very long one, I get lost in how much there is, can't read it all, etc. etc.

Oh, I hated A Million Little Pieces but felt compelled to come to Frey's defense when the "shocking" truth came out. It's a memoir not text book. I assume that most memoirs have a ... ... as a way to escape everyday life and have a bot of fun. Brown falls into that category for me.

I look forward to ideas for what to read next in this genre! ... me aware of how subjective meaning is. Anything by Noam Chomsky opens my eyes to all kinds of things I need to know. A Million Little Pieces really made me think about addiction in a different way. ... it's a series of essays rather than a memoir per se but still true life stuff.
