It's a charming little book, from another age. It has two separate works for the price of one (so to speak), and neither of them the common Kipling choices. "In Black and White" has both a Dedication and an Introduction, and the dedication is a heartfelt one from Kipling.

It ends (paraphrased into modern English) thus:

"And though I am more rich herein than the richest, my present Poverty can but make return in this little Book which your own toil has nobilitated beyond the deference of the Writer your Son." ( )
