#159 Hi Stasia! I read Odd Thomas based off your recommendation :) Now, I have one less book to read from the many on my wishlist for which you are responsible. What did you think of Odd Thomas? ... month since my last posting, but at least I have managed to finish a few more books :)
101. Arrows of the Queen
102. Odd Thomas
103. Arrow's Flight
104. Exile's Honor
Hmmm, it seems like there was something else, but I can't think what it might have been. Well, before you completely pitch out Koontz, you may want to check out his series starting with Odd Thomas. It's very good, IMHO. Also, I just read The Face as part of our Halloween reading list over in the 75 Book Challenge group. Even though it suffers from Koontz's flowery prose, the plot ... ... for stopping by. I'm spending this morning (afternoon, now, I guess) catching up on threads--and putting off facing Odd Thomas which I was supposed to finish yesterday! You should try to find The boy Who Harnessed the Wind--it is really a "hopeful" book!

I have felt the same way about Koontz. Right now I'm trying to read my first one for Halloween month--Odd Thomas. I was told it wasn't as creepy as his usual stuff--but I'm finding it creepy enough that I'm having trouble sticking with it. He's a great writer and I really ... ... my "review" on my 75 thread but I will wait to make comments here until others have a chance to read it.
I'm reading Odd Thomas for my Koontz book--it was available at my library and Stasia said she thought I might like it. I've avoided Dean Koontz for the same reason I've avoided Stephen ... ... Not that the length has stopped me from re-reading it several times! 8^}
More modern ones I'd add for newcomers:
Odd Thomas and sequels by Dean Koontz
Duma Key by Stephen King
The Repairman Jack series by F. Paul Wilson

4. The Princess Bride
5. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
6. Good Omens
7. Odd Thomas
8. The Colorado Kid
9. Duma Key
10.Intensity Okay, Stasia. You say you don't do "horror" but you love Odd Thomas? Isn't that horror? I've avoided Dean Koontz entirely because horror is not a genre I'm into--but I am reading some in October for Halloween month. Should I break down and try Koontz?
I'm adding Furies of Calderon to my ... I hope you give Odd Thomas a try. I had wanted to read it for years but always passed it over. I'll get to the other 'Odd' books soon. Thanks guys,
I am a King fan, good to know there are others around. I liked Odd Thomas, different than anything I've read, I've never read anything by Koontz before, glad this was my first book. ... since my last post, so I'm now up to 78:
Cut & Run by Madeline Urban
The 10th Kingdom by Kathryn Wesley
Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz

Stuck in Shangri-La by Kelsey Michaels

ETA: The first book in the Odd Thomas series is the aptly named Odd Thomas. >72 I did enjoy Odd Thomas but there were a few things I didn't like. I did do a short review on the book page if you're interested.

Up next for me is a book which is on all three of my Challenges, Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. Last night I started reading Odd Thomas and I am still listening to Artemis Fowl on CD in the car with my son. wonderlake - I can't believe I didn't thank you for the information! Thank you :-)
I've finally started Odd Thomas which has managed to linger on the proverbial "top" of my tbr mountain for months. Something else always came and pushed it down the slope. I'm only about a chapter in, but so ... ... little slow moving in some places, but pretty enjoyable overall.
Today I finished off The 10th Kingdom and am starting Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz which has been in my TBR pile for a very, very long time. ... Forever Odd which felt at times like it wanted to be a paranormal Die Hard movie - much faster paced, and funnier, than Odd Thomas.
next up for me is Something More, a book I've started and abandoned once before. I'm taking another stab at it as I usually like Paul Cornell's work.
... ... need to renew and read (I need to stop taking out library books if I'm to ever have hope of making a dent in my TBR pile).
Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. I am bound and determined I'm going to get to this book soon!
Probably after or sometime in between I'll be picking up the next Harry Dres ... ... Butcher (waiting for me at the library)

3. Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz - This is one I've had in my tbr pile for ages and happens to be on all three of my challenge lists.
4. What I Meant by Marie Lamba - I ... Is it Odd Thomas?
I was actually going to guess that before but I don't remember anything about his mother. And I'm not sure about he pancake thing, but he is a fry cook... If this is right it will totally be a *facepalm* moment for me... I found a few to nominate:
Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson
Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs (although I get the feeling almost everyone but me has already read it).
... say I'm not a fan of his style either. Anhow, my wife used to read his books but got burned out on him. I have picked up Odd Thomas for her though, based on the recommendations from this group.

Wait a sec. Are you implying that Dean Koontz ... ... although Koontz is one of those writers I'm never tempted to read (after having read only two of his novels), I did find Odd Thomas pretty entertaining. I liked Odd Thomas but I never got around to reading the rest of the series. Is the rest as good as the first? ... that one, but I do have it.
We hijacked the thread. I apologize!
To get the thread back on track, I am reading Odd Thomas for the first time. So far it's very good. I also want to read The Terror. I finished Odd Thomas and it was fun once I got over the mildly irritating tone of the narrator. And the (fairly predictable) 'surprise' 'twist' at the end actually caught me out because I'd convinced myself I was being set up for a *different* 'surprise' ... I'm running low on books for my BCZ at work, so I'll start reading Odd Thomas today. 129. Ring of FIre by Eric Flint
130. Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz Hi, Jenson_AKA_DL,
I also started this challenge late. I have heard that a lot of people really like Odd Thomas, so I can't wait to hear what you think of it. I figure that even if I don't complete the challenge, I will still put a good dent into my TBR list which is a good thing!
Good luck ... 57. Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz
I want to get caught up with the series, but it's been a bit. So I thought I'd start with the first and re-read 'em. I'm of the opinion that this series by far the best Koontz has done. Odd Thomas is a thriller and a paranormal mystery filled with great ... ... Seed by Dean R. Koontz

My problem is I have too many books in my tbr piles and that it might take a long while to get to it otherwise. Am I right in thinking Odd Thomas is the first book in the series? Seems logical, but thought I'd check anyway. So far this month I've acquired:
the Forever War

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Suzanne Clarke
Marley and Me - John Grogan
Gone to the Dogs - Emily ... ... of The Last Battle except for Susan. Poor Susan. I can't image what I would do if I were in her shoes.
I also finished Odd Thomas and I may go get the next Odd Thomas book at the library. I found it to be my type of quirky. ... so I didn't enjoy some of his works. My favourites, and I'll try to keep the list small, are Lightning, Watchers, Odd Thomas, Life Expectancy, Intensity, Strangers... and I could go on! ;o)
The 1st book I read, the one who got me hooked, was Mr. Murder.
