I'll second SK's On Writing. It's been my favorite writing book so far. No Plot No Problem Is a definite.
First Draft in 30 Days also helps.
Though I might also recommend On Writing since Stephen King tends to give good writing advice in it. (Stick to the second half, where the writing advice is, if you don't have time for the entire book.) ... terviews

For all those aspiring writers out there, this is an amazing book to pick up and learn a few things about the craft and the process and some suggestions that King has used for his journey to become a writer.
It's not a manual, and it ... I think you've been extremely crafty and picked something from On Writing. I browsed this only the other day and I'm sure I saw that quote about someone in King's family, though I can't find it again now. ... in Rodanthe in preparation for the movie to be released next week.

I did enjoy it On Writing It only took me so long to read because I'm on summer vacation and I read more when I'm at work. The childhood stories were great. The writing tips made sense and the description of the accident...just wow. Did you like On Writing? I am a big King fan. To quote Stephen King in his excellent book On Writing, "If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write". I agree with him there. I wasn't looking for insights when I read On Writing, but I managed to get a few regardless--I love reading diatribes by writers I respect (even when I don't agree with them, which is a good thing considering how much I like Harlan Ellison) but it's always fascinating to hear about the ... ... too. That would be AMAZING if one of my classes required me to read On Writing. Stephen King: Started to read his On Writing and put it down. Never got back to it. Based on these comments, will have to go back and try again.
