I have two (french provincial and roast chicken) and a honorable mention (on food and cooking - great book, but hardly a cookbook). I have other books by Jane Grigson and Alice Waters, so that's four of the writers.

sjmccreary, I haven't read a lot of nutritional books. One of my favorite food books is On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen, 2nd edition. It's more of a reference book than one to be read straight through. But it has all kinds of very interesting sections in it.

I'm halfway through On Food and Cooking, and I do love it, it gives me quite a few insights into what actually happens when you cook. TPBM is reading a book they like a lot more than they thought they would.

I did, actually. I managed to Bookmooch Cookwise! As I will probably finish On Food and Cooking soon, that is very good news. It still has to get here, of course. TPBM has been on Second Life recently.

... it is an engaging narrative and one of the best accounts of its subject. And just to mix it up, we now have at our house On Food and Cooking by Harold McGee. Of course, I should be reading for my thesis, but a break is always nice (and therein lies trouble).
