... Hunger Games, and are real page-turners - I'm thinking I might try reading one of those next year perhaps. I agree that The Graveyard Book is good, and I thought of reading it this year, but I wonder if it might be a bit slow as a class readaloud. I felt it dragged a bit in the middle few ...

#204: The copy of The Graveyard Book that I read last year had the illustrations by Dave McKean. I like the cover of the hardback edition that I read better than the one mentioned in your first paragraph, Kerry, so I am in agreement with you there! Thanks for the link to the blog. I will ...

#57 The Graveyard Book Don't let 'em fool ya... it is a children's book, not YA, and certainly not "mature" enough for an adult reader who normally reads fiction that has sex and violence and decent kick-butt action.

Finished The Graveyard Book. Cute. Lighter read than I was expecting.

... follow it up with another dystopian story, The Other Side of the Island might work. For a change of pace, you could do The Graveyard Book -- since it's a fairly episodic plot, I think it would make a good read-aloud. If you wanted to do realistic, how about The Schwa Was Here?

I was really disappointed with The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, because everyone talked about it like it was the greatest book ever written and then when I read it, it was stupendously, incredibly, unbelievably boring. You'd think Gaiman of all people could make a coming-of-age story ...

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman great read, excellent narration by the author. enjoyed it in august or thereabouts.

... possible way I might add this is either to select a copy which is not, in fact, the edition I own (in this case the book is The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, I have the First American Edition long before his Newberry Award - the only copy that shows a cover from Amazon is a Large Print ...

I seem to have stuck to the Brits and Yanks for this theme. First I read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, then I read The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, and now I'm into Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and The Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe. I really loved both The Gr ...

... is *completely* different. Excellent, but don't go in thinking you're going to get the book in movie form. :) Finished The Graveyard Book and I did enjoy it very much. Neil Gaiman has a wonderful imagination, I don't think I've ever been disappointed in his books. Not sure what I'll pick up ...

I'm in a cemetary that is suspiciously like Highgate Cemetary (so I am told, I've never actually visited it!) in The Graveyard Book.

... of that ilk. :) After a bit of pfaffing about, I've now settled on A Confederacy of Dunces as the commute read, and The Graveyard Book as my home read. And I just bought Julia Child's autobiography, My Life in France and am *dying* to read it. Hoping to squeeze it in somewhere ...

... quite a fun read, fairly light and funny in places. Or for a YA slant you could look into Neil Gamain, I recently read The Graveyard Book which I found quite entertaining, Coraline is rather popular at the moment too. I also agree with #3 about the Hunger Games series, I found them ...

I just finished reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, it's not very scary and satisfies two criteria (ghosts and a bit of suspense), it was quite an enjoyable read, i've also heard that some of his other works are quite good too.

I picked up The Graveyard Book after reading your recommendation, and I thought it was very sweet. Thanks!

Hi Callen I enjoyed The Graveyard Book, the plot kept me interested enough to keep reading but It wasn't one of those books that I just couldn't put down. It jumps about in some places because the story is covering about 14 years of the boys life, and obviously the book is a stand alone title, ...

I hope everybody likes The Graveyard Book. I liked both it and Coraline, so on my wishlist are some of the more adult Neil Gaiman novels, see if I like them too... Today I finished #58, 13 things that don't make sense by Michael Brooks. The book is about 13 things science cannot ...

Hi fairywings - and welcome! What did you think of The Graveyard Book? It's been on my TBR list for awhile, but never seems to make it to the top. I really liked Coraline, but haven't read any Gaiman since.

Someone at work told me that Gaiman intended The Graveyard Book to be a retelling of the The Jungle Book?!?!?

I read The Graveyard Book last year because my sons have been pestering me to try a Neil Gaiman book for years. They've read them all. I, too, enjoyed it and plan to try one of his "adult" books next year -- probably Neverwhere because the son who lives in the same town we do can lend it to ...

I finished Dracula, read a little Poe, and am now into House of Seven Gables, while also reading The Graveyard Book, which isn't on the list but seems kind of appropriate.

I'm actually reading The Graveyard Book now. Since I work in a library, and it won the Newberry medal, I kind of feel that I should have read it already. . . I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I'm rather enjoying it. I'm not sure why it won the Newberry, though. (In recent years, I've found a ...

>16: *sigh* Now I must reset the counter! I bought The Graveyard Book when it came out. Then, it became so instantly popular that my natural aversion to hyped books kicked in and I set it aside, saying I'd read it when everyone stopped talking about it. And I was so close!!! Just kidding. ; ...
