As usual with Evanovich books, I was laughing out loud! ( )

As a fan of the Stephanie Plum novels, Janet Evanovich's "other" novels don't usually hold my attention as much. Most of the time they get bogged down in sappy romance, which is not why I enjoy Evanovich's writing style. In this one, she uses the wit and sarcasm she usually reserves for Stephanie Plum in a character that would probably be friends with Stephanie Plum. A great, fast read - held my attention all the way through. I'll definitely be checking out the others in this series. ( )

Funny stuff. (Spoilers)

Too bad Hooker cheated on Alex (First page of the book). I wanted to like him. I can't believe she forgave him in the end. Although I guess I can afterall, they are both cheaters in one way or another by the end of the book;) ( )

A light fluffy enjoyable read, made slightly irksome by the fact that Evanovich keeps recycling characters in her books making them all too - 'ho hum' - the same. Somthing new would be nice. I don't think I'll continue buying this series, I thought I'd give the first two a go but wasn't in love with the first one, finding it too similar to the plum series and the second one failed to change my mind.

The Alex Barnaby series is something that I wish she would cont. it was well worth every penny. ( )

Likeable, but not as laugh-out-loud funny as the early Stephanie Plum books. At least when Evanovich writes about NASCAR, she's got something more interesting to talk about than track decking and how many races Dale Earnhardt won (see St. Dale,/i>; better yet, don't). ( )

Cheating may not be kosher, but when a few tenths of a second can mean the difference between millions and second place, it's still part of the game, especially in NASCAR. Barney knows there's something fishy about the way the Huevo team's been winning races - she just can't prove it. Not, that is, until proof drops right into her hands. Of course, it comes packaged with grand theft auto, a couple of corpses, and a very angry bunch of leg-breakers.

Hooker, Barney and Beans, not to mention Felicia and Rosa are a riot, and it's good to see them back. Now if only they'd get another outing! ( )

I read this book because I read the first book. I was very disappointed with the way Sam handled thier relationship in the beginning and how Barney handled it towards the end. Still, there was the same humor we saw in the first book. She can still kick some major booty. ( )

Better than the first book in the Alex Barnaby series. I like Barney better than Stephanie I think... Really funny; I laughed out loud a number of times. ( )

Better than the first Barnaby book, but still not as good as Stephanie Plum.
The tone of the book is very, very similar to the Plum books, which is
great, but the characters just aren't as interesting. Plus I kinda hated the fact that Hooker cheated on Alex and then throughout the whole book she'd struggling with whether or not to take him back! (guess which one she chooses) Come on. Have some self respect. If there's
another Alex Barnaby book, I'll read it, but I'd rather have more
Stephanie Plum. ( )

Not one of her better works. ( )

This is the second book in her Metro Girl series and I thought
it was better than the first one was. The characters seemed to fit their
own skins better this time around somehow, and I wasn't distracted with her
calling Sam "Nascar Guy" this time (which I greatly appreciated). I'm not a
racing fan AT ALL but I don't think you have to be to enjoy this particular
book. Main character Alexandra Barnaby (or Barney to her friends) is
starting to take flesh and become her own character and didn't come off
feeling like Stephanie Plum in Florida at the race track. She's somewhat
brighter and sharper and seems to have more savvy in this book. It's still
a fun read, I thought. I'll give it a 4. ( )

Alexandra & Barney dismanteled a car, found a chip and searched for clues of what it is for. Their dog bit a dead guy and eventually swallowed the chip. ( )

Although I enjoyed the book, I felt maybe it wasn't as good as the first. From my library, you can see I am a huge fan but thought maybe the 'mishaps' were a little too over the top (if that is possible). ( )

Caution: This review contains a spoiler.
I enjoyed this book. The scenes with the dog Beans made me laugh out loud. But I never really understood what the chip did. And, if it is cheating, why are Hooker and Alex going to use it? ( )
  phyllisd | Jul 23, 2008 |
Metro Girl sequel and not as good as Evanovich's numeric series. Setting is the NASCAR circuit with a stolen microchip in the gear handle that leads to discovered dead bodies. Overly long section on feeding the dog prunes to have him "poop" the swallowed microchip out. ( )

Not a fan of the Alex Barnaby series, written in the same style as the well-known Plum novels, something about these novels doesn't click. ( )

Sequel to Metro Girl this is a fun read, nothing major and nothing amazing but an entertaining read. ( )

Barney, Hooker, and friends are back, tearing up the race track, and tearing up the town! The action takes place in a wild race around Southern Florida and Concord, North Carolina, home of NASCAR. Barney and Hooker "borrow" a NASCAR trailer to save a friend, only to discover that in addition to the two race cars and their friend Gobbles in the back, there's also a naked dead man wrapped in plastic! And that's not all... turns out the cars house their own secrets as well.

Now on the run from a couple of hit men, the head of R&D at Huevo Industries, and the police for questioning on a murder they didn't commit, Barney and Hooker team up with old pals Felicia and Rosa to clear their names, and try to figure out what's going down in downtown!

This was another great Evanovich read which I enjoyed just as much as its predecessor Metro Girl. It had a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, and you're left wondering just what's happening right up until the very end. ( )

Follow up to Metro Girl. Lots of action, but I expected a little more relationship stuff between Barney & Hooker. Absolutely fun. A bit more outrageous, bordering on unbelievable, in a few places. ( )

My husband loved this book and normally he won't read novels. Period. Laughed himself silly over the dog. I offered him Metro Girl, the prequel, but after a few pages he gave it up. I liked both but Metro Girl more, which seemd to have less broad comedy but fresher characters. Eavanovich need to make a change from wiritng the Plum books and this seems like a winning turn.

In this sequel to Metro Girl, Evanovich revisits Barney, the spunky female engineer who works as a spotter for Nascar driver Sam Hooker. Barney is ticked at Hooker, and their dating tension isn't all that interesting.
I didn't like the doggie subplots and the casual references to dead people throughout the book. It was supposed to funny, I know, but I wasn't laughing. I listened to the CD version of this novel, and wasn't impressed by Evanovich's breezy writing with a predictable plot.
I love the Stephanie Plum books, but I think the author is starting to write books to sell, instead of writing the quality comedies that made her famous. On amazon.com, a purchaser compares the author to Danielle Steele, and I hate to say that I'm starting to agree. Unless her next novel knocks my socks off, I'm done with Evanovich. And that's sad because she really was one of my favorite authors. ( )

Maybe I am being unfair here, because normally I just adore Janet E. However, I couldn't get past the first page when I saw that the book was about a subject I absolutely DESPISE---NASCAR. I hate few things more and feel it is such a redneck past-time that I promptly put the book down and went onto the next.

Nascar driver, "Hooker", and girl "spotter" become involved in a typically silly mess with bodies showing up wherever they are. on run from cops and bad guy racing team. Not particularly interesting or funny. Definately not up to evanovich's earlier Stephanie Plum novels. ( )
