I also enjoy the Louisa May Alcott books a lot, but must admit I prefer the first book, Eight Cousins to the sequel Rose in Bloom. 57. Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott. This was a re-read, which I found online on a site a friend recommended. I read Louisa May for my first two books this year, Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom. I have to get in the attic and get my box of my children's books down to catalog (and reread) soon! ... occurred to me to note that Aunt Peace, the old lady, was 20 plus 30 years old--what!!
Of course I had to go ahead with Rose in Bloom next! I find it not quite as strong a story as Eight Cousins, perhaps because this book was written more to answer the question of what became of the ... ... set in Burma.
'A Colour in the Title': Just remembered an old fav that someone here (Stasia? Roni?) re-read recently, Rose in Bloom by Alcott
'Featuring Artists / Musicians': I know I read something good last year that fits this, but can't remember what. I'll try to hunt it up and come ... ... To Kill a Mockingbird, simply a great book. Also Louisa May Alcott--I like her lesser known Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom.
Agatha Christie is good if you like mysteries; there are lots of other series, e.g., the Spenser novels by Robert B. Parker.
Try Isaac Asimov--the Fou ... ... with Jo's Boys unless you are going to read all of Alcott's work. I also really like Eight Cousins and its follow up Rose in Bloom as well as Jack and Jill and An Old Fashioned Girl.

Mort by Terry Pratchett My first two books for 2009 were Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott. I was home for the holidays and there they were--hadn't read them in decades. Still fun, but my definition of old lady has definitely changed! (Aunt Peace and Aunt Plenty are "old ladies" at 50) ... A Delta Wedding -- a gentle look at a South no longer there (but not a sentimental one), and of all of Alcott's books, Rose in Bloom was always my favorite. Of course I had to go ahead with Rose in Bloom next! I find it not quite as strong a story as Eight Cousins, perhaps because this book was written more to answer the question of what became of the characters in the first book rather than arising from the situation itself as in the first book. St ... Oh you are tugging at MY heartstrings. When I was a young teenager I read and re-read Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom. I must see if they are still at Mom's house the next time I visit because you have pushed them onto the TBRR pile. Happy Reading. My Mom had Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom--really old editions--and I inherited them. I have read most of the "famous" Alcott books but have never read these. I think now I will have to find time for them soon. These were her favorite Alcott books. ... to me to note that Aunt Peace, the old lady, was 20 plus 30 years old--what!! I still have all my Alcott books, I love revisiting them every once in awhile. I think Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom are my favourites of hers. Little Women was the last book I read to my daughters before they decided they were too old to be read to anymore :-(

Favorite Movie: Let me see if I can narrow it down to three or four. The Princess B ... #17 -- Ah, no! Mac is the best! He improves so vastly between Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom, whereas Charlie was always kinda slick and insincere. yes! Jo and Laurie should end up together. Speaking of Alcott (more spoilers!!), I'd jump into Rose in Bloom, save Charlie, and marry Rose off to him instead of Max.

Now to something a bit more modern. So much to chose from! 44. Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott - great fun if a bit preachy. Reading sequel next - Rose in Bloom. Englishrose, I bought Rose in Bloom in a Virago recently: it and Eight Cousins were among my favorites as a girl. Like many other Louisa May Alcotts, it was lost in the process of coming to maturity. (Speaking comparatively.) I was fortunate enough to happen upon it in Cambridge, Mass., ... Nearly finished Eight Cousins and will then read sequel Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott. I see you're read Eight Cousins by Alcott, so I would recommend the sequel, Rose in Bloom -- those are my favorite of her books; I like them better than Little Women/Little Men/Jo's Boys, though all Alcott is good.

There are books I go to over and over just because it makes me happy. I've read Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott too many times to even estimate, and Little Women not as many times, but still a lot. Pride and Prejudice probably comes around ... ... with overt sermonizing that promotes values with which I don't entirely agree. And yet, I adore her. I read books like Rose in Bloom and Little Women over and over again, when I want something that'll just make me happy. So does she write bad books with good stuff in them, or good books ... I am in the U.S., and lent one of my British friends Alcott's Rose in Bloom last year. When she returned it, we started talking about Little Women, and she mentioned Good Wives. I couldn't imagine how I had missed a book about Jo and friends. We finally figured out that they are published ... ... I'd forgotten about.... and it brings back wonderful memories of enjoyment. I loved Joan Aiken and Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom (the sequel) were definitely favourites. I will even confess, now that zimbeline else has, that I loved The Bobbsey Twins as a child too. There are a few ... ... was a brat and didn't deserve him. I was much happier that Rose ended up with my other Alcott crush, Mac (Eight Cousins, Rose in Bloom).
