Her father is a newspaper reporter and he buys a printing press, then heads north to cover the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. Libby, her mother, and her six-year-old brother go with him. Libby makes a friend, Ellie, who is her age. She falls in love with her father's young assistant, Pete. She writes about watching the railroad being built in her diary. This was one of the best Dear America books. ( )Student Review: This is a diary by Libby West, who is 14. I have been reading it for almost two weeks, and it is a great book. The book is about trains, and it tells me how long it took the railroad to be finished. The railroad was finished in Promontory, Utah. I have been enjoying this book. This book was great. Not just for the plot, but the history of it was facinating. The twist of romance made it even more lovley. A great read more girls, even if there not intrested in history. no reviews | add a review
