... I was there I read Midnights Children which I loved and Animal Vegetable Miracle which was OK. I am now finishing up The Tender Bar and just started Malone Dies. And I'm glad to be back.

Time to close down the screen and open a book. Still a preferable technology. Am reading The Tender Bar. Sometimes florid but so far, pretty good. Check it out.

I am on the same books. Upstairs Midnight's Children, downstairs The Tender Bar

... famous. (Although I also love political biographies!) Anyone else interested in the less-than-famous? I'd recommend The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer and Corked by Kathryn Borel. At the risk of adding substantially to my TBR shelves: any recommendations?

The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer is one of the best books I've read in a while. I highly recommend this one.

The Tender Bar is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Now, even though I hated Amsterdam and don't like movies much, I am about to start Atonement by Ian McEwan.

Sounds like your son is doing an admirable job picking out books for you! I read The Tender Bar last year and really enjoyed it, and felt the same as you about The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. Bill Bryson normally gives me some pretty good laughs.
