I really wanted the series to continue. ( )Maybe it's the Nocturne format but I just couldn't buy into this werewolf story. i wasn't interested in any of the characters or the politics, it all felt a bit paint by the numbers. Tortured hero, check, misunderstood heroine, check, failure of trust check, sexual tension - not bad, but not sizzling. Also, Jeremey as the heros name, not so heroic. And Jeremey and Jillian - too twee for words! So Jillian is the spirit walker of her group of wolves, apparently a very important position which doesn't stop every female wolf from challenging her to a duel to the death and every male wolf just standing by and letting that happen. So already I don't like or care for the wolves. Jeremey is a half breed (half were, half human) and despised by the full bloods. Another reason not to like this particular bunch of wolves. And Jillian sacrificies Jeremey time and again for the wolf group. So not much respect for Jillian either. I started to skim, read the last 50 pages, let it go. I've read several Rhyannon Byrd's now and while her blurbs always sound exciting, her actual writing/characterization never quite works for me. I've not read one of hers I love yet. Well, this is the 2nd book in Byrd's Nocturne wolf series. I really enjoyed the first book, but this one was a chore to finish. The heroine irritated me from start to finish. She was a sniveling, whiny, weak-willed, childish...ooohhhh, it still burns me that she gets a runner and I don't!! The hero was WWAAAYYYY too sweet and patient for me. TEN YEARS?!? He was willing to let this go on for 10 years??? Now, I really like Ms Byrd's other books. I think I have everything she's written in either e-book or trade paperback (or both!), and yes, I'll still buy the third nocturne for the ending to the story, but I really hope this change to her writing is something she had to do for mass market and won't become permanent. And I really hope her 3rd in this series reflects her usually moving stories!! **Courtesy of CK2S Kwips & Kritiques** For years, Jeremy has avoided the pack and Shadow Peak, preferring the companionship of his fellow Blood Runners to the judgmental and bigoted hatred of the Pure Bloods. But there is one among them he has never been able to forget – his mate. Although they knew long ago they were destined to be mated, circumstances conspired to prevent the union of Jeremy and Jillian before it ever began. With a need that has long clawed inside of him for his wayward mate, Jeremy is determined to claim the woman long denied him. But once he returns to Shadow Peak, he realizes that claiming Jillian will be the least of his worries when just keeping her alive will take everything he’s got. With the second book in her new Blood Runners series, Rhyannon Byrd pushes the momentum even higher in this thrilling trilogy! LAST WOLF HUNTING picks up where its predecessor left off, and it ramps the intrigue up several more notches as we realize that the villainy rife in the first book was only a small part of the evil that threatens Blood Runners, Pure Bloods and humans alike. Jeremy and Jillian’s love is explosive as they finally consummate the desire that has burned inside them both for years. When they finally loose their passion, they do so completely – body, heart, and soul. Yet Jillian still has a dilemma – she has never doubted her love for Jeremy, only his fidelity. It was reports of his inability to be faithful to her that separated them long ago, and the same rumors follow her now that he has insinuated himself back into her life once again. As Jillian struggles to determine whether she can believe her heart and trust Jeremy, the readers’ hearts ache for them both. Ever present in LAST WOLF HUNTING is the growing unrest with the pack’s youth as well as the increasingly prevalent spirit of enmity towards the half-breeds. We learn the identities of some of the villains, but learn there is a mastermind to the plot that threatens the denizens of Shadow Peak yet to be revealed. As the story draws to a conclusion, we see some of the mysteries unfold, while still others leave us practically panting with anticipation for the next book in the sexy and riveting Blood Runners series! no reviews | add a review
