Having never read Ms. Bardsley before, I picked this title up in a local thrift store. I had run out of things to read by my favorite authors and thought I'd give her a shot. I was pleasantly surprised! Not only did I read the book cover to cover, but I immediately wanted to read all of her other books. Within a week, I had finished the series (or at least what she's written of it so far).

If you're into vampire romance and into humor, you should definitely give this series a try. I laughed until I cried, wanted to strangle a character or two, and ended the book with a satisfied feeling. What more can you ask for? ( )

I liked the premise, although the resolution seemed a little pat and, well, bizarre. Also the use of the word, ahem, *rooster* was a little out of character and jarred me right out of the novel. Not that I think she should refer to such things as "throbbing members" but still... ( )

Before I say anything more, let me stress that this book can't stand alone. If you haven't read the previous books not only will this one make very little sense but you'll be missing out on the better books in the series thus far.

Introduced to us in I'm The Vampire, That's Why, our heroine, Patsy, was brought in as a 40-year-old single mom running her own hair salon. Because Your Vampire Said So brings Patsy back in her very own story, still doing hair and trying to be a good mom to her son Wilson, despite the fact she's now undead. No-nonsense and very tell-it-like-it-is Patsy tells us her adventure with a bold voice which the author pulls off nicely. It's rare to find a first person narrative with this much slang and sass that isn't horrific.

Patsy's love life heats up when a mysterious werewolf drops into her world and saves her life. Only trouble is, he's not the guardian she was told was coming to protect her. Meanwhile, the Consortium has brought in the Ancients to Broken Heart, setting a trap for Kosche and his villains. It is through the originator of Patsy's bloodline that she learns she can talk to the dead and raise what essentially amounts to a zombie army. Not the coolest powers in Patsy's opinion but once she's learned to use them they come in handy. As it turns out, Patsy's sexy werewolf savior, Gabriel, and his motley band of parakind are outcasts seeking the woman prophesied to be their Queen and Gabriel's lover. But there's a lot more to Gabriel is no ordinary werewolf just as Patsy's no ordinary hair-dresser.

I wanted to give this book three stars. I am a slow reader but I read this in a day, it was pretty short. I expected it to be light reading but not that light. It also felt rushed and the romance between Gabriel and Patsy seemed more like a case of lust on her part and him believing in a prophesy. It was just a little forced and quick for my taste. That could have been excusable if the story itself didn't suffer from the same problem. Even still this was a fun book, a cute read and I love Bardsley's style and the world building she has done for this clever series. ( )

This was humorous and the plot hung together mostly. The written histories of the ancients are interesting and help the story along. The "banishment to the place between" came out of nowhere and was never explained unless I seriously missed it, and it thoroughly bugged me that it hadn't been given a theoretical base in the story. Blew the credibility way off! I wasn't a big fan of the heroine, she had a warm heart but was more than a bit cliche. I haven't read the first book yet, only the 2nd and this one, so maybe I'll understand her better after reading the first book, but I kind of doubt it.

Addendum: The banishment was explained in the first book. I still think it a weakness that it wasn't mentioned again in this one before putting it to use. And it seems like an awfully big hammer to get characters out of trouble with all the time. ( )

Absolutely terrible. Poor writing, implausible dialogue. Can't believe I wasted my money on this and can't get it out of the house fast enough. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0451223861, Mass Market Paperback)

When you’re immortal, being a mom won’t kill you— it will only make you stronger

Even though all the non-vamps in Broken Heart, Oklahoma, skipped town, Patsy Donahue has kept her hair salon up and running thanks to the werewolves prowling around. They know how important good grooming is, especially a certain rogue shapeshifter who’s as sexy as he is deadly. Now, if only she could put a leash on her wild teenage son, who’s up to his neck in danger. The stress would kill Patsy, if she wasn’t already undead. But her maternal instinct is still alive and kicking. And no one had better mess with her own flesh and blood…
