I have to say straight away, this is my favorite book so far in the series. Damien is the Prince of all vampires. He is a great character. You see his gentleness but also are very aware of his strenghths in this book. He is portrayed as loner and I actually felt a bit sorry for him. Then along comes Syreena. She is a very strong personality and is truely a difficult one for Damien to win over. Once they are together - the love and respect for each other is loud and clear. Again they are fighting necromancers and a deadly Demon who has turned on the Demon community and now has turned on all otherworldly entities. It is a great plot and kept me on the edge of my seat guessing what the heck would happen next. A great read from a terrific writer (Jacquelyn Frank). A must read for all paranormal/romance fans. ( )The fourth installment in Jacquelyn Frank’s Nightwalker series, Damien tells the tale of the Vampire Prince, Damien, and the lycanthrope princess, Syreena. The novel continues the story arc when Ruth, the renegade demon, kidnaps Syreena and Damien follows in hot pursuit. After the rescue, the two are left alone for a bit to heal and sparks begin to fly. Now they just have to decide if they want to try and make a relationship work and deal with the opinions of their different societies. All at the same time while trying to deal with Ruth’s antics. Just like the previous three novels, Damien brings to life interesting characters and choices that each much make. The situations she throws them into are completely compatible to someone’s life that it humanizes what we would normally seen as paranormal and not necessarily rooted in reality. Overall, I truly enjoyed this novel and it wasn’t a mistake buying it as soon as I saw that it was released. It’s definitely lived up to the previous three novel’s expectations and it even delivered in an area I never really thought of. Of all the vampire novels I have read, none of them ever come across as resembling close to the Stoker model. Dracula is the ultimate bad boy vampire and Frank gives a lot of these same characteristics to Damien. The transformation, the smoke & mirrors, the telepathy…it’s all reminiscent of the Count. The similarities between Dracula and Damien actually made for a nice change of pace where vampires are concerned. Damien was great and I can’t wait for Noah to come out in a couple of months. This is definitely a series worth the time and effort it would take to read them. http://www.literaryescapism.com/2008/... They are the Nightwalkers, mysterious beings who dwell in the shadows of our world, and Damien, the Vampire Prince, is among the most powerful of them all. But one woman will tempt him with a desire unlike anything he has known, and together they will face a terrifying and relentless foe… HE’D NEVER LOVED. BUT SHE WAS IRRESISTIBLE. As reigning Vampire Prince, Damien has tasted every pleasure the world has to offer—consorting with kings and queens and delighting in sensual adventure. Now, tired of such pursuits, he devotes his energies to protecting his people. The war between human necromancers and Nightwalkers has escalated, and when the enemy makes a daring move, kidnapping Syreena, a Lycanthrope Princess, Damien boldly follows. He succeeds in rescuing her, but is unprepared for the erotic longing her lush sensuality awakens in him. Gifted with rare abilities, Syreena grew up in a cloistered setting and was forbidden to form attachments to others, yet the connection Damien feels with her is immediate, intoxicating, and impossible for either to resist. But claiming Syreena as his mate could have shattering repercussions for every Nightwalker—and leave their enemies more dangerous than ever before… Temptation tastes sweetest at night. Since the first book, Jacob, I have been absolutely in love with the Nightwalkers Series, grabbing up each and every book since then and consuming them quickly while still savorying each individual story. Jacquelyn Frank is a great author, able to create a world filled with every 'creature' needed to make a perfect paranormal romance setting: Vampires, Demons *Not all Evil/Ugly ones either*, Shapeshifters, et cetera. Add to that her ability to create various situations--sweet and heart-warming, sexy and wild, passionate and funny. You will find yourself laughing at times, almost close to tears, or enthralled while reading the lush love scenes. Even though I loved all of the previous books in the series, with Gideons probably being one of my top favorites, I think that I was really impressed with Damien's story, because we finally got to see more of the Vampire world, which has fascinated me from the first book. In this book, we get to learn about the vampire Prince's past, a little about their 'customs', and we get to see how he starts the ball in motion to pull all of the Nightwalker species together in order to fight their common enemies instead of each other. It's great for such a passionately sexy story to also have a subplot that is interesting and compelling, telling the story of a time long past and a step forward, out of war and destruction, for an entire world, AKA, the Nightwalkers. If you like your hero's to be sexy and slightly dark, dangerous but still sweet and gentle when it comes to his woman, then I think you will love Damien just as much as I did. He was open to love almost from the very beginning, which is kind of unusual for an alpha male type hero. He wants children, he's willing to do anything for his mate, and besides making her blood run like hot lava, he can also do it to the reader! In my opinion, that helps to make him a great canidate for a perfect hero. Oh, and the fact that he is a vampire doesn't hurt! ;-) 4.5/5 STARS! Once again, Jacquelyn has created a spectacular story, deftly twisting together a tender love story with a sexy, wilder side, a few laughs, and even some thrill, fighting evil away both their people and each other. A great series, a great book, this is an author you should definitely keep your eye one-- she's going somewhere! Oh, and if you want to read more about the Nightwalkers or their author, please visit her website--- the forum is great, full of funny posts, book conversations, and especially, the Eye Candy post, which is filled with gorgeous, sexy, and for the most part, half-naked, men, contributed by fellow Nightwalker nuts! Warning, if you open up the Eye Candy post, you might not want to do it when you are at work orh ave kids around-- it can quickly get veeeeeery hot while looking through the pictures! ;-) If I had to rank the four Nightwalker books so far, Damien is actually my least favorite. I hate to say that because I did enjoy the book, I just like the ones with a Demon romance more. Damien and Syreena are a special couple with a lot of social pressures working against them. I found their courtship very moving because of the strength of their connection and the struggles they both feel for the people who count on them. I enjoyed Damien’s surety in himself and his feelings for Syreena. While the majority of the book does focus on the couple I found it hard to really like Syreena’s character. Damien’s close friend Jasmine has quite a few scenes of her own where she constantly bashes Syreena, which made me not like Jasmine at all and I felt less for Syreena. I can see Jasmine’s struggle leading up to her own book eventually but I wish there had been much less of her in this book. In this book you get to know the vampire culture of the Nightwalker world. Some very interesting facts are discovered from the books in the Nightwalker Library. We discover the reason why drinking Nightwalker blood is such a taboo for the vampires. We get more scenes with the Mistrals and even get the meet the Shadowdwellers in this book. The races grow closer and closer together in their continued struggles with Ruth who has obtained even more power. Overall I thought Damien was a good continuation of the series with a decent romance and exciting revelations for the Nightwalker population. no reviews | add a review
