Some parts were great, others less so. You can read extracts from some of them on their website. I especially liked "On Buying A Clavichord" by James Fenton, "Chicken and Eggs" by Doris Lessig and "The Unknown Known" by Martin Amis. ( )100th issue. A bumper issue with poetry as well as the usual stories. My stand outs were Jayne Anne Phillips; Hanif Kureishi; Helen Simpson; Allan Hollinghurst; Doris Lessing; A.M. Homes and Helen Oyeyemi. The stories by Martin Amis, Isabel Hilton and Tash Aw were also good - on reflection. And (once again), when you get a long list like that, it seems like a good issue. I guess it's just poetry generally does nothing for me as did the 'My Question For Myself' feature... plus the downright irritation I was left with after reading Mario Vargas Llosa and one or two others... and I STILL don't have Granta 99! Even though I have complained. no reviews | add a review
