My daughter brought me three books that she assures me I will love - His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade, and Black Powder War all by Naomi Novik. She also said there are at least two more books in the series. Naomi Novik is big right now with her Temararie novels. There are many Eragonesque books, and if you search enough on the forums you will find that many think Paolini is not the greatest of writers, so the many books recommended to you might be from some great writers.

Bad News: I have to hurry up and finish Black Powder War before the 30th. I have to return it and with Sea of Monsters its hard to concentrate on it sometimes. Too many good books to read!! (which in a way is a ... Black Powder War was one of my favorites in that series, Mindy. Though I think I say that about each of the Temeraire books.

I found it better than Black Powder War and it has a very strong, poignant ending which makes you anxious for Victory of Eagles. #74 Roni -- I almost gave up after Black Powder War also. I was glad I stuck with the series though. In the final two books they find themselves in alot of trouble in Africa that leads to legal trouble back in England. The last book is actually very sad. I meant to check out Noviks site and see ... Oh, really? I enjoyed Black Powder War so little that I swore off the series at that point. Maybe I should reconsider. #71 Black Powder War is the least enjoyable of the Temeraire books. Empire of Ivory and Victory of Eagles are both really good, the pace quickens and alot happens. ... by Naomi Novik - Good but somewhat linear plot.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by B ... I finished Black Powder War last night. I didn't enjoy it as much as the others - there's a point in which I really don't like Lawrence very much, although that does pass, and it doesn't hang together quite as well as the others. It does give a new perspective to the war though, and does well at ... ... kind of boring... but I have to for school. LAME.
I'm also reading a couple other books too. Mostly The Book Thief, Black Powder War, and Rose Daughter. Good News: I don't work until Thursday!

Black Powder War by Naomi Novik I'm over 100 pages into Black Powder War by Novik and I'm about to give up. All it is about is travel and war. Yawner. At least His Majesty's Dragon had interesting characterization and you learned about the dragons. I finished up Black Powder War last weekend and I'm hanging fire about halfway through War Surf. MrsLee, I didn't think Throne of Jade was as good as His Majesty's Dragon, but I still enjoyed it. I found Black Powder War excellent. #12: Morphidae, if you found the second book in Novik's "Temeraire" series depressing I guarantee that you'll find Black Powder War even more so; such is war.
Besides the novel I also finished up House of Rain and am currently reading The GI War Against Japan. >15 Brave New World is by Huxley. I have the third book in the Novik series, Black Powder War but haven't read it yet and may not for a few days.

Has anyone read Naomi Novik's books? I bought
His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade and Black Powder War for my daughter recently, and she hasn't read them yet. I'm curious to know if they are any good.
