His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik (do I get double points for a double N-er? N & N???? No? Ah well, LOL!

My daughter brought me three books that she assures me I will love - His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade, and Black Powder War all by Naomi Novik. She also said there are at least two more books in the series.

DWWilkin in Book talk : Eragonesque books? (Jul 2, 2009, 8:15pm)

Naomi Novik is big right now with her Temararie novels. There are many Eragonesque books, and if you search enough on the forums you will find that many think Paolini is not the greatest of writers, so the many books recommended to you might be from some great writers. Tolkien, White, Lewis ...

14. Black Powder War-Naomi Novik I think too many people died in this one, and it kinda reminded me of that Eragon book, (oh horror) where they had to travel over a desert. Not as interesting, and too much aerial fighting and talk of battle strategies bores me.

12. Black Powder War

Welcome veronica =) I just finished Black Powder War and it was really good. Now I can concentrate more on Sea of Monsters because I've really been wanting to read more of that.

I'm loving Sea of Monsters but I have to finish Black Powder War before the 30th. I don't think I can renew it anymore.

... The majority of the project is done. Bad News: I didn't get to read much (LAME!) Bad News: I have to hurry up and finish Black Powder War before the 30th. I have to return it and with Sea of Monsters its hard to concentrate on it sometimes. Too many good books to read!! (which in a way is a ...

Black Powder War was one of my favorites in that series, Mindy. Though I think I say that about each of the Temeraire books. And Suge has found a way not to finish every book she starts! "Lose" one from time to time! ;)

I finished The Secret Life of Bees tonight. On to finishing Black Powder War!

I'm getting close to finishing The Secret Life of Bees. Then I have to finished Black Powder War so I can return them to the library by the 30th of March.

13. Empire of Ivory by Naomi Novik I found it better than Black Powder War and it has a very strong, poignant ending which makes you anxious for Victory of Eagles.

#74 Roni -- I almost gave up after Black Powder War also. I was glad I stuck with the series though. In the final two books they find themselves in alot of trouble in Africa that leads to legal trouble back in England. The last book is actually very sad. I meant to check out Noviks site and see ...

Oh, really? I enjoyed Black Powder War so little that I swore off the series at that point. Maybe I should reconsider.

#71 Black Powder War is the least enjoyable of the Temeraire books. Empire of Ivory and Victory of Eagles are both really good, the pace quickens and alot happens.

... by Naomi Novik - Good but somewhat linear plot. 11. Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik - Good March 2009 12. Black Powder War by Naomi Novik - Allright, but not as good as the previous two. Just an endless cross-continental flight.

I finished Black Powder War last night. I didn't enjoy it as much as the others - there's a point in which I really don't like Lawrence very much, although that does pass, and it doesn't hang together quite as well as the others. It does give a new perspective to the war though, and does well at ...

Now reading Black Powder War by Naomi Novik and 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff, both of which I'm enjoying immensely. I have to work hard at getting my library book pile read this week, sadly I'm also going to be ridiculously busy at work so I don't know how I'm going to manage it!

I'm a couple chapters into Black Powder War.

Still in Temeraire, now reading Black Powder War. I'm enjoying it, but not quite as much as the first two. Right now I'm wondering if Temeraire and the others will ever catch a break and have something go right for a change.

Good News: I went and got Black Powder War, The Secret Life of Bees, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and Coraline at the library today. Bad News: Some of the books I wanted I either couldn't find or they were already being borrowed by someone else =/

I haven't read Black Powder War but i have read The Bug Wars

I haven't read Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom, but I have read Black Powder War.

... Sewing for Dummies, and I've just finished Throne of Jade (Temeraire Book 2 and plan on starting (once I buy it) Black Powder War. I've just finished reading Gods behaving badly by Marie Phillips and it was an AMAZING read! I certainly recommend it!

I'm over 100 pages into Black Powder War by Novik and I'm about to give up. All it is about is travel and war. Yawner. At least His Majesty's Dragon had interesting characterization and you learned about the dragons.

I finished up Black Powder War last weekend and I'm hanging fire about halfway through War Surf.

MrsLee, I didn't think Throne of Jade was as good as His Majesty's Dragon, but I still enjoyed it. I found Black Powder War excellent.

#12: Morphidae, if you found the second book in Novik's "Temeraire" series depressing I guarantee that you'll find Black Powder War even more so; such is war. Besides the novel I also finished up House of Rain and am currently reading The GI War Against Japan.
