... love Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy, but it's not quite straight up urban fantasy. Ditto Wen Spencer's Tinker and Wolf who Rules.
I've got these kinds of books tagged as paranormal, rather than urban fantasy. I've heard all sorts of debate about what the difference is, ... ... but well worth reading.
Other than that I'd recommend:
Wen Spencer - A brothers price, the Ukiah Oregon series, Tinker
Patricia Briggs - Mercy Thompson, The Hob's Bargain, the Hurog duology
Eileen Wilks - World of the Lupi series
I looked in my catalog and am not sure how I forgot this, Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer also feature elves. They're a couple of my favorite fantasy stories.
Additionally, Finder by Emma Bull has elves too. ... favorite fantasy stories are the Nightrunner and Tamir Trilogy books by Lynn Flewelling and Wen Spencer's Tinker and Wolf Who Rules.
I also enjoy urban fantasy, but am not sure if we're talking "urban" in this group. Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer are very lovely stories that I'd highly recommend.
Two older fantasies that I loved in high school are Song of Sorcery and The Unicorn Creed by Elizabeth Scarborough. Song of Sorcery sets up the storyline between the characters but the ... Yes, I read and really enjoyed Wolf Who Rules as well. If you enjoyed Tinker I'd certainly recommend it! I had hoped to see the author write another one with those characters but I haven't seen anything yet. 14> Glad you like her books! Yes, I have read Tinker and loved it! Have not read Wolf who Rules yet. If you read it: Was it good? >11 I enjoyed A Brother's Price, you're right it is quite unusual :-) Have you read Tinker also by Wen Spencer? It is my favorite that I've read by her so far.
... mentioned is, so I'd probably not start there.
If you like Patricia Briggs you should try Wen Spencer, esp. Tinker and Wolf who rules - same level writer, a bit more original ideas.
Urban fantasy series with romance:
Eileen Wilks World of the Lupi
Humorous urban ... Finished Wolf Who Rules yesterday and it was a fitting sequel to Tinker. I thoroughly enjoy that series - 'series' of two only unfortunately - and am hoping there are more to come.
Now just started The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, one of my favourite authors. :) ... something I don't have to think about too much. ;) Perhaps Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer, which is the sequel to Tinker. Great stuff. Of course that's after I reread the lovely little picture book (about a cute little penguin called Pipkin) that I'm about to send my four year old ... ...

edited to take off Split Infinity as it is already on the Fantasy list. Just finished Tinker by Wen Spencer. Review on my thread. #21 Tinker by Wen Spencer
I read the first two Ukiah Oregon books by Spencer when they first came out. Enjoyed the first, but then in the second it settled down to this series thing where Ukiah kept digging up things from his past, but it was really more of the same and not interesting ... I liked Tinker a lot and wanted the sequel too. Hope you find it. #21 Tinker by Wen Spencer

eating: had a slice of quiche for lunch, going to fix a pot of spaghetti as soon as the kitchen floor dries
drinking: black tea
talking about: not much, only the dog and cats here. Our weather has veered from rain to sunshine and back ... ... Marge Piercy. Non of them particularly ass-kicking, though.
ETA: Other good books with strong female protagonists;
Tinker and sequel Wolf who Rules by Wen Spencer
Doomsday book by Connie Willis
Lethe by Tricia Sullivan
Marks of our Brothers by Jane Lindskold

24. De ... ... enjoyed it, so I might be fighting him over the chance to start the second one (Fool Moon) tonight. :) He also read Tinker and liked the concepts, but not the kissing bits. The sequel for that one will be for me alone, when I get around to buying it. All this talk about Tinker and Wen Spencer forced me to go off and order the sequel Wolf Who Rules from The Book Depository. I'll read it within a month or so of it arriving and send it on a ring/ray if you can wait that long wookiebender. Tinker is just such a great character, I agree. ... And I finished Tinker which was awfully good fun, and I shall have to pop into Galaxy to pick up the sequel! Going to finish my fun Amelia Peabody (The Mummy Case) before diving back into the serious bookrings/rays/1001 books.
Amelia Peabody is great fun, but even she had to be put aside for ... ... about The Hotel New Hampshire.
So I haven't given up on Irving, just on The 158-Pound Marriage. :)
Enjoying Tinker in the meantime (and The Mummy Case), although I do wish this headcold would just Go Away. (How funny, the Touchstones are insisting that The Mummy Case was ... ... desperation, he's a complete oxygen thief. So, needing a new book on the way home, I popped into Galaxy Bookshop and bought Tinker. It's all your fault, freelunch and crimson-tide! :)
A couple of chapters into it, and she doesn't let up, does she? Should be a fun bus read for the next few ... The only Wen Spencer I've read is Tinker, which I thoroughly enjoyed. In fact it was a bookray of yours freelunch. I'm hanging out for you to read it and then Wolf Who Rules, so you can send that one out on a ray too.
;-) I've been pretty lucky getting books signed over the last couple years. So far I have signed copies of:
Tinker by Wen Spencer
Mad About Max by Lisa Plumley
Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith (actually, this one is a book plate I put into the book)
Ironside by Holly Blac ... ...
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
A Fistful of Sky by Nina Kiriki Hoffman
A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer
Tinker by Wen Spencer ... the Dark, Rob Thurman's Cal Leandros series starting with Nightlife, then I adore Wen Spencer's series about Tinker and Wolf Who Rules as well as her Ukiah Oregon series starting with Alien Taste. Those are just a few :) I started A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer last night. I loved her books Tinker and Wolf Who Rules and this one is starting out as being just as interesting. It is more of a fantasy than a romance, but my understanding is that there is a romance in it. ... by Jim Butcher
8. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
9. By the Light of the Moon by Dean Koontz
10. Tinker by Wen Spencer There is a sequel out now for Tinker by Wen Spencer called Wolf Who Rules, so Tinker isn't a stand alone anymore. I love the books though and it is not quite epic length yet. >19 I loved Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer! I have another book by her to read, A Brothers Price which is in my TBR pile. ... but not for her Mercy Thompson books Moon Called and Blood Bound which are both really good.
Also, you might enjoy Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer and Holly Black's Tithe, Valiant and Ironside trilogy. 21. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling - Spec Fic
22. Tinker by Wen Spencer - Spec Fic (re-read)
23. Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer - Spec Fic (re-read)
TALLY:
Spec Fic -- 18
YA -- 1
Crime -- 1
Chick Lit -- 3 ... wasn't 900 pages long and epic then it wasn't worth reading. Yeah, I regret wasting all that time now :D
For me, it was Tinker by Wen Spencer. Since then I've moved on to Patricia Briggs, Carrie Vaughn and Kim Harrison but I still have LOADS of catching up to do! A TBR pile ... Personally I'm glad that Tinker is spinning to a series -- I loved it, and the follow up Wolf Who Rules althugh I'm with you, malundy, that I hope it doesn't become ALL about the sex. I prefer my smut to have some relevance to the plot. Even in romantic fantasy. :)
It's almost impossible to ... ... by Tim Powers
- Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan
- Time On My Hands by Peter Delacorte

J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter got me back into reading!
Wen Spencer - I need to read more of her work, but I loved Tinker and Wolf Who Rules enough to list her as a fave.
Rachel Caine - Another fave author based on reading only a portion of her published work.
Robert Asprin ... ... I've been making a lot of suggestions to people of these books and might have already mentioned the series to you.
Tinker by Wen Spencer is a, urban fantasy/sci-fi with some romance in it. I loved this book and the sequel Wolf Who Rules.
The Aisling Grey books by Katie MacAli ... >68 I liked Wolf Who Rules almost more than I liked Tinker. I'd love to hear what you think of that one too if you get a chance to read it. Right now I think it is only available in hard cover. I had to request it from the library but plan on buying it when it comes out in paperback.
Gla ... ... to wander off into past memories that kind of makes it confusing to keep track of.
I haven't read anything other than Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer so I'm not sure about how they would compare. The Ukiah Oregon series didn't really look like something I would like, but I ... ... of the Wolf. I have another one of her werewolf stories in my TBR pile.
Have you read Wen Spencer's stories Tinker and Wolf Who Rules? They sound exactly like you were describing, sci-fi/fantasy with a little romance as only a subplot (the books are cataloged as sci-fi). I'd ... I read Tinker and Wolf Who Rules because they were suggested on LibraryThing and absolutely loved them. I had to purchase my own copy of Tinker to have for myself and hopefully will be able to get Wolf Who Rules when it comes out in paperback as well.
Other books suggested on LT that I am ... ... it was a romantic story? The reviews were kind of on both sides of the fence about that. There were romantic aspects in Tinker and Wolf Who Rules and I really did like those books.
One of the most romantic books I've read is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, but it is a G rated romance ... ... name YA books that do not have any romance in them :-)
I also like grown up sci-fi/fantasy stories. I've recently read Tinker, Wolf Who Rules and The Blue Girl that all fit into that catagory.
I have to admit that I do not read a lot of general fiction, it just doesn't really appeal ... ... Caine's Weather Warden series which includes Ill Wind, Heat Stroke, Chill Factor, Windfall and Firestorm
Tinker by Wen Spencer I liked Tinker so much my mommy bought it for me for Christmas! rianoel - have you ever read Tinker and Wolf Who Rules by Wen Spencer? I really loved those books. They are a combination of sci-fi, fantasy and a bit of romance. ... in the books I've been reading lately have actually been pretty hot.
I'm thinking of Roiben in Tithe, Windwolf in Tinker and Charlie (okay, he's half elf, half fairy) in What Do You Say to a Naked Elf?
I asked and there isn't even any kissing in Pride and Prejudice (no, I haven't ... ... amazon today. Although she doesn't know it yet my mom bought me The Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine along with Tinker by Wen Spencer.
For my co-workers I bought The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and Stash Envy: And Other Quilting Confessions And Adventures by Lisa ... ... es)

Wen Spencer (I really loved the book Tinker which I just finished a couple days ago.)
I just read Tinker and I think she would be and excellent character to be. She's a genius and understands quantum physics which no matter how hard I try, is completely impossible for me. I wouldn't mind being married to her husband either. I'm reading Tinker by Wen Spencer. It's my first true fantasy I've read in a long while and I'm enjoying it. I am soon starting Tinker by Wen Spencer. ... Infinite Playlist yesterday. It was okay, I'm still mulling over my feelings about the book.
Today I'm starting Tinker which I've had out from the library for an extended time and really need to read. I quite enjoyed Tinker, but it is the start of a series. The second book Wolf Who Rules came out this year. After I finish my Georgia Nicolson book I'm reading Tinker by Wen Spencer which is a YA fantasy that sounds interesting, but it looks like it will take me a while. Then I'll have to find another romance to read.
