There is really only one word for this collection: Pulptastic. Sure, it's full of classic authors, but these are classic *pulp* authors. Which is not to say the stories aren't fun - for the most part they're fun as hell. As long as you don't mind cardboard characters, rather amusing ideas about what constitutes "science," and a strong post-war American patriotism. It's a fine collection of what it is, but what it is is stories that were old when this anthology was published, nearly fifty years ago. ( )

Collected here are several stories from the great names of Science Fiction.

Featuring works by classics, such as Clarke, del Ray, and Poul Anderson, this collection is a must for fans of science fiction, or those interested in reading the original source material for existing and upcoming science fiction films.

Recommended for someone wishing to get a broad overview of Sci-Fi without having to read a lot of books. ( )

Groff Conklin (1904-1968) was one of our best anthologists, and Treasury, his second, was one of his best anthologies. . . .

The Treasury stories were written before I was born; of their day I am no deep student; they carry no nostalgia for me; the best of them are delicious for their own sake, and although this is quite sufficient, to enjoy it now that we are different broadens the mind.
