The verbiage in this book is curious for a children’s picture book. Particularly, the use of the word “lover” on the first page would be difficult for children to understand. The portrayal of the myth itself is engaging. However, the story is more appropriate for older children. As an adult, I appreciate the story but I would not use this book in my classroom or with my own children. ( )

The tragic tale of Persephone and her unwilling role as Hades' bride is captured in an illustrative style reminiscent of Native American artwork. As a fan of Greek mythology, I think that it is important to share classic literature with young readers, including that from antiquity. ( )
