Substance: Basically a vaudeville show with a cast and plot. Works in some commentary on almost every aspect of WWII service, including tributes to Russian and Chinese allies and a subtle plug for racial integrarion. The dancing of the "soldiers" and "canteen girls" is worth watching; Ray Bolger is amazing; Gypsy Rose Lee makes a tremendous business out of exiting still fully clothed. Other cameos are meaningful only to a fan of the particular star. Worthwhile as a "slice of history".
Style: The multiple story-lines are predictable stereotypes and the propaganda lines are injected bluntly, but that's part of the genre. ( )
