... ... Shadows is also pretty good. You just haven't read her most polished and emotionally powerful works.
Read at least House of Spirits before you make a final decision. It is haunting. ... Oprah book. Still, I wonder if I haven't judged her too hastily. I've seen so many positive comments here about The House of the Spirits and Eva Luna. If I was underwhelmed by Daughter of Fortune, would I be likely to feel the same about her other works? I'd have a hard time deciding between:
Middlesex
Refuge
House of the Spirits
The World According to Garp
The Poisonwood Bible
Ishmael and My Ishmael
I also love Owen Meaney, it ranks up there close to the top; and it's time to read To Kill a Mockingbird again, it's been ... I finished Daughter of Fortune yesterday. Enjoyable but not as good as House of the Spirits.
And now, for something completely different:
Anne Bronte's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
(I haven't read a classic in a while) Started Daughter of Fortune the night before last. I read House of the Spirits some time ago and really enjoyed it, so I decided to try another of Allende's books. So far I'm enjoying it. I finished reading The house of the spirits and really enjoyed it - I was really sad to finish the book and thoroughly enjoyed the story - very touching at the end
I am now reaading How to be lost - I shall report when the book is completed :) ... -- that made it somewhat worthwhile.
Started What is the What by Dave Eggers but have misplaced it.
Started The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende (not on my list) because I'd lost What is the What and I needed something to read.
Also have agreed to read Bait and Switch ...
