I'm sure I could polish off quite a bit of the History of Western Philosophy in that time alone!
Then of course there is the trip back! ... I'm not a Christian but it's a good excuse to treat yourself. ;+)
I'm on the look out for a really nice edition of A History of Western Philosophy by Russell and Les Miserables by Hugo.
Anyone suggest other non-Folio editions ≥ in quality? ... up settling for (since I'll still be paying for Moby Dick and Selborne for a few more months) is Lark Rise to Candleford, A History of Western Philosophy, The Silver Branch, and possibly The Lord of the Flies or Trafalgar.

Le Grand Meaulnes and The History of Western Philosophy. I'm almost done with Russell's A History of Western Philosophy. It's been over a year long effort and I would have a hard time if I had to read it from start to finish without reading other books in parallel. I just got past Hegel and only have a few more chapters. My method has been to read a ... #25 - Does Bertrand Russell and his A History of Western Philosophy count in this category?
That's another rather sizeable book I'm planning on getting round to! ...

There are a few editions that are not illustrated at all. The History of Western Philosophy comes to mind as I am reading it now. On the other hand, it is a wonderful leather bound book.

It must be fairly good it has been in print since the 1920's. I also read Russell's History of Western Philosophy. When you read that book you must beware of Russell's opinions that color his writing. Those volumes go from one philosopher to another in a ... Whew! The Folio Society's The History of Western Philosophy that I am reading (slogging through might be more accurate) now is not abridged. I only have to wonder about "minor" emendations they made to the 2nd edition published in the '60s. ... is kind of funny for me. ;)
Another one it put was Encyclopedia of Knots and Fancy Rope Work.
I still have no idea why A History of Western Philosophy is in there, it looked good.
Silly, silly unsuggester. ;) LOL mem! It told cat she wouldn't like A History of Western Philosophy. I thought maybe it assumed she prefers Eastern Philosophy. :o) ... is one of things I love about the Society; how approachable & flexable they are! My recent order of Bertrand Russell's History Of Western Philosophy arrived with not exactly small creases to the first 4 pages, ( Particularly the frontspiece!) & I was nervous that they might not replace it. B ... ... leading philosophers on a wide range of interesting topics in a way to which even a layman can relate.
I have also found The Classics of Western Philosophy a helpful reference when studying the works themselves.
... if I will include graphic novels, so I will keep their tally separate until I manage to make a decision.

I'm currently working my way through Bertrand Russell's The History of Western Philosophy and I keep getting hung up on Russell's prose (or, should I say, his manner of thinking). As a layman, I have no credentials for this discussion, but I do think that scientific ... ... philosophers into either the analytic or continental camp.
To take just one example, look at Michael Dummett's book The Origins of Analytic Philosophy, in which he locates the birth of analytic philosophy with Frege. One of the most interesting portions of the book deals with the ... ... book assumes you know fifty other major classics. If you do need some clarification or quick overviews, then do look up the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy Online - http://www.rep.routledge.com/ or some of the shorter works mentioned above, but don't consider any of them to be the final ... The Routledge Russell collection, particularly Western Philosophy and Why I Am Not a Christian, were particularly formative, inspiring both an interest in classical philosophical texts and the atheist position in a clear, understandable way.
Other texts including Atheism: The Case Again ... ... and they can point you to things that you decide you'd like to study further. A great starter is Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy. It covers everything (up to his time), and Russell won the Nobel Prize for literature, so it's beautifully written. ... now I can get that copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude and Epics of the Middle Ages I've wanted. And then there's The History of Western Philosophy. What else? I'm like a kid in the candy store!
