Toby Dyke sneaked around the great dark pseudo-Tudor house, forced his way in through a french window, and switched on the lights. What he found was the appalling condition of a room with the furniture tumbled about, a huge mirror broken, bullet holes in the wall, and his friend, John Lestarke-Toye, quite, quite dead. Toby always wanted to find murder, and his friend, the cherubic George, never wanted to have anything to do with murder or crime; his soul was above such things.
