Book description
Grade 5-8-- Three overviews with numerous, well-executed, full-color illustrations. Unfortunately, the drawings often lack captions and at times they don't relate to the text on the same pages. The Ancient Greeks focuses almost exclusively on Athenian culture, with occasional references to Sparta and little information about other city-states. The rights and duties of women in Athens contrasted with those of Sparta are highlighted in the section on citizenship, which also gives an excellent explanation of Athenian democracy, including its limitations. Koenig provides a good introduction to the Ancient Egyptians , but presents nothing that isn't readily available elsewhere.
