#58: I am soundly in the 'hate it' camp on that one - after 25 pages, I threw it at the wall. #59: I liked The Poisonwood Bible when I read it several years ago, the first book by Barbara Kingsolver I ever read.

I plan to read The Poisonwood Bible this coming year just for the sake of the different perspectives... I hear she's incredibly talented at maintaining different POVs, though I don't imagine the story itself will be up my alley :)

139. Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver Another book with lots of hype that I was extremely excited to read. The Poisonwood Bible is about a family of the church who move to Africa to mission and try to build a church. With four girls to take care of, the parents find themselves in dire ...

... to do...but first I'll have to put time into Xmas prep. The Lacuna wasn't typical of Kingsolver. I think I preferred The Poisonwood Bible and that may be good place to start if you haven't read any of her books. If you love historical fiction, though, go with The Lacuna. As for Coupl ...

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. A great woman writer, most of the book is set in the Congo. I think that is in line with 2 of your reading goals. It is also quite a large book, some called it her Magnum Opus. One of my favourites that I've read this year. Outside the box - I just ...

36. The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver

... it deserves caps!) I agree with previous Kingsolver assessments: Loved Animal Dreams, Bean Trees, and not so much Poisonwood Bible. I will have to add Prodigal Summer to my summer list. Happy reading!

Animal Dreams was my favorite Kingsolver. Prodigal Summer is a much lighter book than Poisonwood Bible--my least favorite Kingsolver, by the way. You could read Prodigal Summer in an afternoon. In fact, you should wait for a summer afternoon to read it.

... ssive! You have quite a few of my faves on your list. I finally read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn this year and loved it. Poisonwood Bible is also a fave.

I read The Poisonwood Bible last year and quite liked it but didn't love it. But I did love The Bean Trees - much less heavy-handed on the moral of the story.

The only Kingsolver book I've read is Poisonwood Bible - and I wouldn't rave. I thought most of it was a bit lacking in tension - you *knew* it was going to end badly in Africa, with a father like that, although I wasn't sure how/when. But I thought the final part, with the grown up daughters was ...

I don't remember what I thought about The Color Purple but I'm so with you on The Poisonwood Bible. Plus, it was so obvious that each member of the family in that book stood for a group, or a stereotype. All her books can get preachy, but that one was the absolute worst!

44. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver - I LOVED this book. I had read it a few years ago but my RL book club chose it as its selection so I read it again. I do not remember loving it as much last time but am so happy that I read it again.

Seconding that one! Definitely The Poisonwood Bible!

I believe you're looking for The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

#82 & 85 I agree with your assessments of both Bel Canto and The Poisonwood Bible both of which I read last year.

Book #44: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver Definitely good, interesting, moved along at a good pace. I didn't quite like the ending, I felt like the last 100 pages or so were more like an epilogue than the last 1/5th of a book.

Prodigal Summer, loved it even more than Poisenwood Bible.

I loved Prodigal Summer so I was dissappointed when I couldn't get into Poisonwood Bible.

I may have to try again on Poisonwood Bible. It just seemed like a chore at the time. And I know I got about 100 pages into it. I did keep it, though, hoping it might work at a later time. It was also one of the options for my daughter's AP English class, so between that and all the thumbs up ...
