( )This book is much better than the first one in the series. The world of Marla Mason is better defined, and some of the things that didn't make sense in the first book became better grounded. I like this world. It reminds me a bit of Dresdan Files meets Vlad Taltos, with a little bit of something else that I am having trouble defining. Now, this isn't a serious work. It's what my friend considers "Mind Candy" in that its fun, not very deep, and doesn't take itself too seriously. I love Marla Mason's no nonsense do whatever it takes attitude to protecting her city. Theres no deep romance here, no deep moral dilemma. More of a Dr Destiny scenario. The institute where they keep the crazy sorcerers appears to be a bit light on for residents. In particular, one who has dream world powers, and not always just in your head. Marla has other problems, too, too much work, so she needs a PA. Rondeau's in trouble, amoral sorcerers as usual are trying to kill her, directly, indirectly, or subcontractedly. Then there's the consultant with the lover powers, who can make ever her want to do mucho bonko. Another problem, do you tell someone you are interviewing that you could either be classed as an organised crime lord, a superhero, or both? Or wait to break that to them later. Solid like the first entry in the series. Many plotting specialists, with one general city boss who has to work out who is trying to knife her so she can return the favour. http://superprose.blogspot.com/2008/1... no reviews | add a review
