This book is about a porcupine who thinks she is ugly. All her friends tell her different but she wants to change her looks. She buys a wig, some perfume, nail polish and eye lashes to make herself beautiful. Along comes Dawg, the neighborhood's nearly blind grumpy dog, mistaking Porcupine for his enemy the poodle. She tries to defend herself but the wig is covering her quills. Dawg tears up her wig but she excapes. She learned her lesson that the was perfect just the way she was.

This is a neat book. It had a good lesson in just being yourself.

Classroom use: This would be a good book to teach self-worth or similar lessons. It also has activities in the back on making a dog out of papercups or a poster to help someone else feel good about themselves. There is also a song that goes with the book and an activity on how to make a porcupine calender with a potato and toothpicks. ( )
