A thrilling tale of time travel gone wrong, a series book, for sure, but a real page-turner. ( )
  bookpup | Dec 19, 2009 |
I like this book because there is a lot of past and future. There is also a lot of misterious stuff in it. ( )

Prepare to get hooked on a new series! Two boys start getting strange letters saying "You are one of the missing." What does it mean? They are determined to unravel the mystery behind how they were adopted and deal with the challenge of how to remain with their families. Super suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat, page turner!

*From the catalog:
When thirteen-year-olds Jonah and Chip, who are both adopted, learn they were discovered on a plane that appeared out of nowhere, full of babies with no adults on board, they realize that they have uncovered a mystery involving time travel and two opposing forces, each trying to repair the fabric of time.

One of my favorites! The beginning is kind of confusing but after a while you get used to it. Your learning about time travel and identities. Then there's bad guys and good guys but your wondering who can you trust? You don't really know anyone and your suddenly ready to go back to med evil times! Jonah, Chip, and Katharine are trying to find there true identities while getting chased after people that want them to travel to the future! ( )

This book is a great page turning fiction book with alot of action. If you like to read you will love this book. It is a sequel. If you read this book Found, you will probably want to read the second book Sent because Found ends in a cliffhanger. ( )

This was the first book in the missing series. This book was very enjoyable and full of action. There were new discoveries around every corner and it kept me reading. But make sure you have the second book handy because this ends on a cliffhanger! ( )

13-year-old Jonah and his new friend Chip are adopted. Jonah has had no problem with being an adopted kid, but then he and Chip begin receiving mysterious letters warning them of their past and their future. As Jonah, Chip, and Jonah’s sister Katherine delve into their pasts to investigate the circumstances of Jonah’s adoption, they stumble upon the seeds of a frightening possibility that involves a baby smuggling program, disappearing planes and people, time travel, and two different groups who want different things for a certain group of adopted kids…and neither option the groups offer is particularly appealing.

FOUND is a promising start to another Haddix sci-fi/speculative/dystopian series that will be sure to attract fans both old and new. The suspense is almost unbearable; the plot twists unpredictable, yet reasonable. The characters are less well developed than those in her previous books, and Jonah is occasionally a frustratingly cynical and denial-happy protagonist. But young readers may be able to overlook character deficiencies in light of the excitement. Classic Haddix goodness. ( )

I had high expectations for my first Haddix book and I was not disappointed. While I have read other reviews that state this is not her strongest read, I have to say that only makes me look forward to the others even more. I am not a huge Fantasy or Science Fiction reader, but Found had me hooked from the first few pages. I would definitely recommend this book for a wide variety of ages. ( )

A plane arrives at an airport with 36 babies in the seats and no pilot. After the babies are unloaded it disappears mysteriously. Thirteen years later, two friends, Jonah and Chip, begin receiving threatening messages. With Jonah's sister's help, the two friends try to find out why the FBI is involved in their adoptions. The two stories converge as the boys discover that they were two of the babies on the plane. This will appeal to science fiction lovers - especially those who like stories about time travel. ( )

Thirteen-year-old Jonah has always known that he was adopted, and he's never thought it was any big deal. Then he and a new friend, Chip, who's also adoped, begin receiving mysterious letters. The first one says, "You are one of the missing." The second one says, "Beware! They're coming back to get you."
Jonah, Chip, and Jonah's sister, Katherine, are plunged into a mystery that involves the FBI, a vast smuggling operation, an airplane that appeared out of nowhere -- and people who seem to appear and disappear at will. The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives.

Do Jonah and Chip have any choice in the matter? And what should they choose when both alternatives are horrifying?

With Found, Margaret Peterson Haddix begins a new series that promises to be every bit as suspenseful as her Shadow Children series -- which has sold more than 41/2 million copies -- and proves her, once again, to be a master of the page-turner.

Haddix is one of my favorite children's authors, so I had high hopes picking up this novel, the first in a new series. Jonah Skidmore, an adopted child who receives a mysterious letter saying only "You are one of the missing." When his new friend, Chip, receives the same letter -- and consequently discovers that he was adopted too -- the boys and Katherine, Jonah's sister, search for more clues about the boys' identities and the mystery surrounding their adoptions. A fast-paced book, very plot-central with lots of twists, and a quick read but not as good as some of her others. I would easily recommend it to reluctant readers. ( )

I stumbled across this in the library, and was hesitant to pick it up. After reading most of her Shadow Children series, I figured she had a lot to live up to, and this book looked like part of an attempt to repeat her prior series' success. But... I read it anyway.

It was good, but not as good as her other work. There were some aspects of the book that felt contrived - particularly the ending sequence, though I understand that it needed to set up the next book - and the writing style and characters were similar to that of Shadow Children. There were some unbelievable parts, while other parts simply surprised me... namely, she doesn't turn around and give everything a perfectly natural explanation in the end, like in many of her other books. That was good - a bit of a departure, so I appreciate the effort - but I'm not quite sure how it'll pan out.

That said, I can say with certainty that I'll read the next book, though it isn't released until this coming August. I want to reserve judgment on the series as a whole until after I see how she develops the theme and moves the plot. In the meantime...? If you've liked her other books, it's worth checking this one out. If you haven't read Haddix before, try book #1 in the Shadow Children series first (Among the Hidden). ( )

I love this book. Within the first few pages you are hooked by the storyline. The characters the author builds are so strong, and the plot so believable, that even those who don't like science fiction typically will be sucked in! The strengths of the book are the three dimensional characters, great hook at the beginning, and believable plot line. Plus, she is a master of creating suspense as she weaves the plot. The weakness for me was when the time slip happened. It seemed to be a little predictable at that point. ( )

Haddix has created a masterpiece. Found is one of those books you just can't put down. Every turn of the page reveals another twist, another puzzle piece. As I turned the last page, regret settled that I would not be able to see what happens next. I would have to wait until the sequel. ( )

Great beginning to a new series! Love time travel books, and it looks like the series will go there. :) ( )

Found is a book for the series reader. Unfortunately, I wanted the next book immediately after I read the first and now I have to wait. Haddix continues with her mysterious twist and turns writing style. To summarize the book would take away its mystery. Let's just say there are babies and teens and they are connected to some historical figures in a way that involves a vanishing act and a trip through time. An excellent book to start a great series.

This is the first book in a new series by Haddix, so I thought I'd better get in on the ground floor. Jonah has a pretty solid 13 year old life, with a 12 year old sister named Katherine and a new friend named Chip. Jonah is adopted, and starts getting a series of mysterious warning letters. Then it turns out that Chip is adopted, and is getting the same letters. They soon find out that there were 36 babies on a flight that mysteriously appeared at a local airport with no pilot. Jonah and Chip were both on this flight, and adopted out, but the reason they were on the flight is even more mysterious - they were time traveling from different centuries, where they were the "missing" children of those centuries, such as the Lindbergh baby and Virginia Dare. This is an intriguing concept, and the book ends abruptly with the children all ending up in the 15th century. It is clearly set up for the reader to go on to the next book. This certainly is a quick read, and full of science fiction premise. The time travel idea will have a lot of kids interested in it. ( )

This comes close to Among the Hidden for excitement. ( )

Mrs. Haddix has again created an intriguing story. "Found" has lots of twists and turns. It left me with the feeling, you can't end this book that way. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the sequence. ( )

This novel is very exciting. Chip and Jonah don't know where their investigations will lead them, and the truth becomes more terrifying for them every step of their quest. Jonah's younger sister Katherine is a well-developed character and a nice addition to the plot. The rules of time travel can get a little too detailed, but overall the suspense is sustained throughout and this is a real page-turner. ( )

Right now Mrs. McCarthy is reading Found to the sixth grade. It is a mystery about a boy who is adopted, he got two letters in the mail saying... " you are one of the missing". Then a couple days later his friends chip gets a letter in the mail saying you are one of the missing! ( )
  Hpiraino97 | Nov 7, 2008 |
I suppose this is the first in a series that will feature time travel. This first book set up the premise of children being kidnapped by future time travellers to be sold into adoption in the future. Something goes wrong and a plane full of babies is found at the airport. Thirteen years later the forces from the future are coming back for the children. This is an interesting juvenile book. ( )

Thirteen year old Jonah receives a letter that says "You are one of the missing". He doesn't understand what it means or where he came from and when he finds out that his friend, Chip receives the same letter, he is freaked out. Both boys are adopted and they believe the letters are somehow related to that. As they begin to investigate, they become involved with what seems to be a sinister plot involving 34 other children, disappearing airplanes and people, and the FBI.

Haddix has created a taut thriller for tweens and teens that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read the rest of the installment. ( )
