A BBC Quick Read book, which has the Tenth Doctor and Martha rescuing King Edward VII from kidnapping by the Judoon, who themselves are ensnared in someone else's evil plan. Does what it says on the tin, in standard Terrance Dicks mode, with random added Arthur Conan Doyle for extra colour. ( )

This book features the Tenth Doctor with Martha, trying to locate Balmoral Castle which has been taken by the Judoon. This is a Quick Reads book so it's written in a very simplistic manner, due to its intended audience. The main downside to these books seems to be reducing a Doctor Who story to just 100 pages, and as a result, they don't always live up to their potential. The plots are generally quite good but they can't be fleshed out enough to be a really good read. This one in particular started off quite well but ran out of steam towards the end. And for a book that's supposedly about the Judoon, going off the title, they were not featured a great deal! I also found the introduction of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to be a bit random and bizarre. The Doctor promises Martha an adventure-free vacation. Not surprisingly, things don't go as planned.

This was a surprisingly solid story for so short a book. A quick and fun read. ( )

Disappointing. Starts off strong, some cool historical characters put in an appearance then do... nothing. Interactions between 10th Doctor and Martha were so-so, not much of a plot or resolution (we never find out anything about the big bad or where the devices came from). These are labelled quick reads, but I've read far shorter stories that were far more satisfying. ( )

A short, cute Doctor Who book I got through LibraryThing's member giveaway. The Judoon, who we met in the series when Martha and the Doctor first go together, are back! Martha, the Doctor and a young man they meet along the way must find a way to stop the Judoon. For such a short book, the plot is decent and the story is quite fun. I read it in about an hour, and then passed the book on to another Doctor Who fan and friend of mine. ( )
