This is an inconsistent and incomplete graphic history of the Battle of Iwo Jima. The book mentions lesser known details, such as a group of Japanese botany students stranded on the island, but omits major factors in the battle. For example, the Navajo code talkers are not mentioned at all, and only one of the flag raisers (Ira Hayes) is named. The artwork is appealing, but in terms of a factual representation of the battle there are several books that have done the job better for this age group. ( )
