Despite being a quintessential book for theatrical and games costumers, the patterns in this book are too stagey for reenactors and historical costumers. The blocked patterns are great starting points for needleworkers with tailoring skills but this is no tool for a beginner. The illustrations are a curious mix of line illustrations and photographs of historical originals and movie stills and I find it offensive that the public domain illustrations are not credited to their creators even when their source is obvious; Carl Koehler's history of costume has been raided heavily, for example.
