42. Princess Ben by Catherine Gilbert Murdock. This was fun, referencing lots of fairy and folk tales while weaving its own narrative at the same time. I came to like Ben a lot and if she appears in print again, I'd be happy to read about it.

For a middle school read, I'd probably choose Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock. ... for a long time. House of Many Ways above was one of those, simply because I'm a big Diana Wynne Jones fan.

This is a nice little Sleeping Beauty retelling. Not my favorite fairy tale-retelling ever, but Ben (Benevolence) is a fun ... I just got ahold of Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock. The set-up reminded me a little bit of Dealing with Dragons, but upon reading it, I'm finding it more like Princess Academy by Shannon Hale.
I really like some of the other fairy tales the author wove into her tale (Jack and the Be ... Princess Ben by Catherine Gilbert Murdock is also a good one in this category -- I picked up an advance reader's copy at a conference, and thought of this thread when I was reading it! It will be published later this spring, so keep an eye out for it. ... to Cyrano pretty much gets instant approval from me.
Now I'm about to start another advance reader's copy of a book -- Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock. It looks very different from her other books, but I'm interested to see what she can do in this genre. About to start Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock -- looks interesting!
