... just don't seem to appeal to me. I commend you on your review. I've read Testimony, Strange Fits of Passion and The Weight of Water and I've now decided not to bother with any more of her books. Flossie, I'd be interested in your takes on Weight, Dream Angus, and Where Three Roads Meet, because while I enjoyed all of them to a degree, some were more fun and entertaining than others. The Tenderness was a strange book and I can understand how some put it down - I think that hearing an episode or two whetted my appetite and kept me going when I thought I might stop. I also enjoyed The Weight of Water. Shreve managed to protray such melancholy, I couldn't help but be affected by it. (I quite liked the movie too) I've read other Anita Shreve books, but I put The Weight of Water down. It didn't grab me right away, and even for her it was depressing. Have you read any of her other books? I liked Wedding in December and The Pilot's Wife and just got Testimony this past Christmas, although I have ... englishrose60;

The Elegance of the Hedgehog I have given up and ordered. *sigh* A Gentle Madness indeed! Gentle on what, I ask you...certainly not the pocketbook! Alcottacre, cameling, ... ... by a friend, and I was so disappointed when I read it. I chucked it when I was about halfway through.
I had to give up The Weight of Water because it was just too pedantic. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for something like this. I'm keeping it on my bookshelf for a while and I'll see if one day ... ... Nancyewhite ... keep with the Elegance of the Hedgehog ... you will not regret reading this. I loved this book.
I read The Weight of Water and I know it's received many rave reviews, but I really could not get into it and found it ..er... weighty.
Pigs in Heaven though, is wonderful ... richard, I did have to give up on The Weight of Water and I've put it aside for another day in the year 2015 when perhaps I will have gained the necessary maturity or boredom to read it again ... who knows, maybe i'll like it better then since I may be somewhat senile by then too.
