Twelve-year-old Sarah Simpson’s life has changed a lot in the past year, and she writes lists in her journal. And the lists are many, considering her father has a new young wife in California and her mother is moving in with her boyfriend. This book would be a good addition to a class library because it deals with divorce and how girls would cope. Although the book is written about an older girl I think this book would be good for fourth or fifth grade.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0763632201, Hardcover)

Family changes bring plenty to dislike — and a chance to grow into acceptance — as a spirited girl speaks her mind with honesty and wit.

Sarah Simpson’s Rules for Living:
1. Don’t lie.
2. Don’t trust anybody but cats.
3. Don’t expect happy endings.
4. Drink skim milk.
5. Avoid blondes.

Sarah Simpson loves to make lists. She has lists of the things she doesn’t like about her father’s new wife and her mother’s new boyfriend, and reasons why life is just plain unfair. But through new friendships, a school play, and adjusted relationships, Sarah begins to realize that change might not be such a horrible thing — and that families come in all shapes and sizes. Is it time for Sarah Simpson’s REVISED Rules for Living?

(retrieved from Amazon Thu, 12 Mar 2015 17:58:14 -0400)

In a journal, twelve-year old Sarah Simpson records important lists and the daily events of her life at home and in school, beginning one year after her father moved from Vermont to California to divorce her mother and marry someone else.
