Reformed grouchy cat Mr. Pusskins returns in this second picture-book devoted to his adventures, now perfectly content in his life with his human companion Emily. But when a new kitten named Little Whiskers is introduced into the household, our feline hero isn't sure that the contentment can last. His initial misgivings seem justified, as Little Whiskers makes a nuisance of herself, even getting poor Mr. Pusskins exiled to the snowy yard for a crime he didn't commit. Fortunately, the pint-sized interloper isn't a bad kitty - just a mischievous one - and she finds a way to set things right.

I enjoyed this follow-up to the initial Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story - apparently there is also a range of Mr. Pusskins concept books available in the UK (Mr. Pusskins Colours, Mr. Pusskins Feelings, Mr. Pusskins Opposites), although they have not yet been published stateside - appreciating both the story and the colorful artwork. Younger children who are getting a new sibling will identify with Mr. Pusskin's mixed feelings about the addition to the family, and will sympathize with him throughout the period of adjustment. I agree with the friend who recommended this one, in that I think Emily's punishment of Mr. Pusskins was a bit much, but leaving that aside, Mr. Pusskins and Little Whiskers was a charming tale of (eventual) feline friendship. Recommended to all young cat lovers, especially those who enjoyed the initial Mr. Pusskins story. ( )

Mr. Pusskins is still cute enough to get a four star rating! But this time I didn't like how his owner Emily threw him outside in the snow to punish him. Hello?! It was snowing. Bad cat owner! Bad! ( )
