62. The Godfather by Mario Puzo I had read this about a million years ago, so wanted to read again (and it's on the 1001 Books list). Great book, interesting story and characters. I followed the reading of the book with a watching of the movie (also very good).

i finished The Godfather and am now reading Out of Africa for a light read after reading about mafia and blood and goer

just started reading The Godfather its awesome and gives you a clear view of how the mafia used to work in the 40 50 and 60's. If you would like you can see the Godfather movies, the second which is less violent, which won best picture in 1974

I adored the godfather too! I really really didn't expect to like it - it's not my thing at all but I got so hooked.

139. The Godfather by Mario Puzo. You know..I appreciate "scholarly literature", stuff that was groundbreaking in its technique or whatever. But if the story isn't interesting, my heart just isn't in it. It's kind of like modern art..I mean I get it, it's just not very moving. Impressive, but not ...

Your review cracked me up, too. I've never even read The Godfather because I love the movie (1 & 2, not 3) so much that I'm afraid the book won't come anywhere near it. So backwards, I know.

#193, There were some very educational scenes in The Godfather too. The book, that is.

The Godfather was an amazing movie and a third-rate book.

It's been a day, so here we go again . . . I'm sure someone out there has read The Godfather, by Mario Puzo (and a strange edition to the list in my opinion).

I agree with amancine in #20. The Godfather was a fun book when I read it 18 years ago, but I knew it was basically lurid pop-trash, not meant to be taken any more seriously than your typical James Patterson book. The films (at least the first two) are classics because they transcend the book ...
