Twelve-year-old Max and his allies risk much as they seek to acquire the Book of Origins, an artifact of unimaginable power, in hopes of halting the ancient evil that is bringing the world to its knees. ( )In the second part of this series Max is forced leave the Rowan Academy and seek the Book of Thoth which takes him across Europe and to the land of the Sidh. This book really stands out and I think that the author has found his unique voice here. The main character is much more interesting in this book, and the story moved on much more quickly than the first. There are twists and turn in the plot that may be a bit obvious to an adult or avid reader but could catch others by surprise. Over all this is a book worth reading and recommending to young fantasy readers. Better than the first novel, this one ranges further from a Harry Potter wanna-be and into it's own space. Max McDaniels and roomate David Menlo join forces against Astaroth, both sides seeking the Book of Thoth for their own purposes. Neff gives Astaroth surprising depth and interest. no reviews | add a review
