Though most of Lovecraft's worst stories seem to reside in this collection, it also sports the enjoyable dream cycle tales. ( )

1965 edition in the original dust jacket with a creepy picture of Dagon on the cover.

Inside this book are pretty much all of HPL's original stories, even the Beast in the Cave, which I think was his earliest piece. It is nice in that you can start this book, get through a few stories, put the book down, come back, read a few more, and take it at your leisure until you've finished. If you want to see what the hoopla is about HP Lovecraft, you would be well advised to start with this one. Other writers have imitated HPL, but they've done so based mainly on this collection of works. A great book and a fine intro to HP Lovecraft. ( )
