I'm finally reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle in anticipation of attending a book signing/talk by the author that is scheduled for tomorrow evening. So far, I'm enjoying the book.

I've only read The White Tiger, Chicago, A Plague of Doves, Netherland, Lush Life, Indignation, and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. Of these, I consider Netherland and Lush Life worthy of a prize, and possibly A Plague of Doves although I thought the last part of it did not match ...

Just getting into The Story of Edgar Sawtelle (October 23), and enjoying the parts about the dogs, especially the faithful, super-smart, loving Almondine. Actually, I think I'm more curious to find out what happens to Almondine than the humans. Hmmm. Finished the book. It is a little bit ...

Just started reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and like the dog, Almondine.

... enjoyable read. I'm not sorry I read it but it was not as controversial as The Shack and not as emotionally riviting as The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I'd probably give it six out of ten stars. Now I'm reading Green Darkness and so far I'm in 1968 and getting impatient for Celia to ...

Yes, I was disappointed in Edgar Sawtelle. It started so promising but many readers love the book (ie spacepotatoes), so I would recommend you read it and find out for yourselves. Thanks for stopping by guys!

I just finished Edgar Sawtelle and reviewed it in my thread. I highly recommend it! It looks intimidatingly large but it's a good read.

I can't make myself read Edgar Sawtelle either and it's really weighing on me, because I bought it in hardbound--I never do that!

My birthday last year brought me Edgar Sawtelle and I still haven't read it. I really want to but it keeps getting squeezed out when I choose my TBR stacks. Maybe after the Halloween reading list we have picked I can pull it down.

>132 That sounds really good! There are a few chapters in The Story of Edgar Sawtelle (what I'm reading right now) that are told from the perspective of the family's dog and those have been some of my favourite parts so this is one is definitely going on the TBR.

Hmmm, I got sidetracked by two library reserves instead, so book 38 is The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, which I just LOVED. Funnily enough, the LibraryThing predictor said that I "probably would not like" it, with a very high certainty. I don't know how it worked that out, because generally it is ...

American Wife is on my TBR list! So many books, so little time! The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski is set in Wisconsin. It's basically Hamlet re-told in the North Woods and I enjoyed both the re-working of the play and the beautiful scenic passages.

30) The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski (review)

I finished The Story of Edgar Sawtelle a few weeks back. I didn't think there was enough of a pay-off at the end. It disappointed me. I also read a piece of literary fiction that I won through a LT reader giveaway, Metacomet's War. Parts of it were surprisingly good, but it could have used ...

>177: I liked The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, but you do have to suspend reality a bit to get into Edgar's world. Yes, there are dogs who die, but there are also dogs who think and have souls, and we are made privy to their innermost feelings, which, to me, balances things out somewhat.
