Finished The Monster of Florence. Very topical since the Amanda Knox verdict, via the same crack prosecutor, came in while I was finishing up. So this counts for week 50. 7/9 Stasi, I hope you like it. I am looking forward to reading another similar tale by Kati Marton.

What is it with non-fiction authors who feel compelled to inject themselves into what would otherwise be a gripping tale?

I rather liked this book - except for the constant references to Thomas Harris, and his Hannibal books. I do get the point that Harris apparently based Hannibal on this story, but why Preston felt the need to reference Harris and also quote from H ... ... May.

This is a non-fiction book about a serial killer in Florence, Italy. The case is unsolved. The first half of the book goes through the crimes, describing the murders of couples "caught in the act" in their cars in the hills of Florence. As ... ... rest of the story. I'd definitely recommend avoiding this book!
So - on to hopefully better reading! I'm going to read The Monster of Florence, non-fiction, next. ... expressed interest in Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's writing.......if you like Non-Fiction or True Crime, Preston's The Monster of Florence is a great read. The H ... Relic is a pretty good thriller/adventure. Though I have to say, I enjoyed Preston's non-fiction book The Monster of Florence much more than I did the novel. I have one other by Preston and Child and I am going to give it a go someday and see if their novels grow on me. ... as historical ones as long as there's sufficient research done and more importantly, that it's also written well. Glad you enjoyed The Monster of Florence. Looking forward to that in my next TBR stack as I picked up a copy at a talk and signing Preston did recently. He was very engaging and the premise of the book made me wonder how his experiences will shade the lives of his fictional characters now. 56. Turns out some of Hannibal was based on the events of this serial killer's heyday back in the 80's. Amazing what a screwed up job of investigation the Italian authorities did. Three different people were tried for the killings, and all were ... I'm about halfway through The Monster of Florence. The most interesting thing to me about the whole story is the connection to Thomas Harris. Apparently he based major pieces of Hannibal on these true murders and the subsequent screwed up investigations by the Italian police. Finishing up Something Rotten today. I'll probably follow up with The Monster of Florence since that's due next at the library and I can't renew it (somebdy else gets a turn!). ... as four novels. The Stories of Jacob, Young Joseph, Joseph in Egypt, and Joseph the Provider.
