D is for Drums is an illustrated, ABC-themed book centering around Colonial Williamsburg in which each page is dedicated to one letter with a few examples of words pertaining to this historical period. In the bottom left corner of every page a Hotch Potch man forms each letter shape. Endpapers include a map of Colonial Williamsburg and a glossary appears at the end. Charming pen and ink watercolors make for an attractive book that introduces children to both the alphabet and colonial times. Suggested grades: 1-5. ( )
