Cordelia's Honor (Shards of Honor/ Barrayar/ Aftermaths) by Lois McMaster Bujold

  1. 30
Once a Hero by Elizabeth Moon (grizzly.anderson)
grizzly.anderson: Or really any of the Serrano Legacy series. Flamboyant space opera with strong female characters.
  2. 20
Fault Lines by Kelly Jennings (reconditereader)
reconditereader: Both are the start of sci-fi series in space, with family and hijinks!
  3. 21
Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold (electronicmemory)
electronicmemory: Memorably written female characters who are most definitely not the typical teenage/twenties protagonists, forced to make hard moral choices when political and military events spin beyond their control. Bujold's writing talents shine across both fantasy and sci-fi.… (more)

An Accidental Goddess by Linnea Sinclair (flemmily)

Finders Keepers by Linnea Sinclair (flemmily)
flemmily: Sinclair writes in a more Romance Novel style, and creates a book which is a little more "adult content", but the plots are very similar, and I enjoyed both books a lot.

Good fun. recommended by Rupa. First book was very smart but a bit rough (author's first novel), next one was a bit more polished. Good ideas in all, good story. Intelligent. Wish everyone in Real Life could behave with as much integrity and predictability ( )

Technically I've already read both the books in this omnibus but I just did a re-read because Cordelia is awesome and I wanted to hang out with her again. ( )

Bujold's first try at the Vorkosigan universe, a set of two connected novels. Unfortunately, there are repeating elements that make me wish that they'd been unconnected, or, better, that an editor had gotten Bujold to toss most of the first half. But most of the elements that make this series so popular are there, minus the masochistic fantasy of Miles Vorkosigan's breakability. ( )

This book was entertaining, but a little too over-the-top pro-life for my taste. ( )

One of the best Sci-Fi books I have ever read. Even though the books were originally published 1986 and 1991, a lot of the ideas are still futuristic. The most enjoyable part is how well the characters and cultures are described, and how varied the story is. ( )
