I have to agree about Eleanor Roosevelt, especially after I read Franklin and Lucy. Eleanor really is the Queen of take a rotten, bad, hardly to be believed situation and make the very best of it. And then she went to even greater accomplishments after FDR's death.

I second the vote for Franklin and Lucy. I think it exactly meets your description. I have not read other biographies of either of them, and thought it was a good introduction to both. But if you've read many separate biographies, you still would appreciate Persico's analysis of who their ...

28. Franklin and Lucy by Joseph Persico This was an ER book, by an author who is already known to me for Roosevelt's Secret War; and for My American Journey, Colin Powell's autobiography in which he "collaborated". Persico is reader-friendly in his writing style and I enjoyed this ...

I really liked Franklin and Lucy. I've posted my review here on LT and on my book blog, www.rosecityreader.blogspot.com. I am amazed to see that there are 40 reviews already! It looks like Random House can count this ER effort a success!

... not. It's hard to predict the algorithm. I don't have a lot of non-fiction in my library, but I still snagged a copy of Franklin and Lucy, a biography about FDR. I generally snag fiction books, though, so I'm guessing the algorithm is giving weight to the majority of fiction books in my ...

... Place and Story by Leslie Van Gelder. I'll have a review up later tonight. I'm starting the early review book Franklin and Lucy: President Roosevelt, Mrs. Rutherfurd, and the Other Remarkable Women in His Life by Joseph E. Persico. It's really interesting so far.

Well, my March Bonus Batch Early Reviewer book was called Franklin and Lucy, but actually seemed primarily exactly what you are looking for. It was pretty good, everyone seems to have enjoyed it.

I just finished reading Franklin and Lucy and wrote a review. Then I read a couple of the other reviews and agree they are very good. I agree the book gives one a great deal to think about and I think one of the best services we can provide with our reviews is to provide our own unique response ...

I should be writing my review of Franklin and Lucy, but my review for Slurp took forever, so I'm burnt out for the day. I should have gotten a haircut, but the place where I wanted to go was booked solid. I should go someplace else and get it done today, but I'll be wearing a hair cover at ...

Finished and reviewed Franklin and Lucy by Joseph Persico. Not mentioned in my review, but it raised the question for me of the effect of the many thousands of young boys being raised by mothers, aunts and grandmothers while the men in the family were off to WWII -- the Sara Delano effect ...

My extra batch book, Franklin and Lucy by Joseph Persico just arrived via UPS (perfect timing, because all I have read in Handmaid's Tale is the first little chapter, so I can set it aside for awhile). I don't know what happened to my March book, though...
