Marcus gets involved in a plot in Germania, and the reader gets to see the life of a Roman soldier in the wilderness and the wiles of the religious sects of the time. An enthralling look into history that opens a whole new view of the Roman empire. The fourth in the Falco series. Good, consistent, predictable characters and this one had a bit more substantial plot. As always, very well researched and life at the frontier of the Roman Empire was obviously wild and unforgiving. A success! Standard rebellion in Germany. Falco is off overseas again, as Vespasian wants to know what is going on in Germania and the legion dealing with the uprising there, having lost an executive. Our favorite informer takes them a new standard and again involves himself in getting into trouble. Not quite as good as some of the earlier books, but decent enough. http://notfreesf.blogspot.com/2007/11... |
