I seemed to strike out with a lot of contemporary fiction this year. I gave The Lovely Bones a shot because it was on a short list of books to choose from for an English class I took. I could not read it. I thought The Abstinence Teacher was pretty pointless. I really have no idea why ...

#17. The lovely bones by Alice Sebold A moving and beautiful story told through the eyes of Susie Salmon, who is in heaven after being raped and murdered by a neighbour. She shows us how her family deals with her going missing and how the mystery of her disappearance and murder is ...

Started last night The Lovely Bones and so far really unimpressed with the narrator. Her male voices are dreadful, all of the men sound like munchkins and she tends to pause a lot, I have no idea why. The plot is getting better but at eleven discs I'm not sure how much I will enjoy this one. Maybe ...

... Nazi officer, bit controversial, but compelling because of the childish confusion of the narrator. Peony in Love like The Lovely Bones is narrated by a ghost.

I'm probably just going to have to pass on Le Carre. They are too bleak for me. Personally, I liked The Lovely Bones. I don't mind bad things happening to people in books; however, I don't care for books that end up totally negative. There needs to be some type of up-note at the end. Robin Ho ...

Has anyone listened to The Lovely Bones on audio?

Oooh, great contest. Let's see, a book I liked much less than I anticipated was The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I think it's because I had such high expectations because that book received so much amazing press, that when I read it and it was just okay, I was sort of like "so what's all ...

16. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Wonderful book on a terrible subject: the rape and murder of a young girl. The story of the murder and its aftermath is told by the girl herself, and the narration avoids both being unbearably gruesome or sappy, instead it is clever, insightful and even ...

... (I'd give it an 8 out of 10). I listened to this one on audio--very good reader, Alyssa Bresnehan, who was the reader for The Lovely Bones as well. #35: The Lovely Bones by Sebold is very good. It is fictional, though, whereas Lucky is not. I urge you to give Bones a try. It is well worth it!
