re Shadow in the North
I also enjoyed the Sally Lockhart series. My favorite was the 3rd book, The Tiger in the Well. 11. Shadow in the North by Philip Pullman: the second book in the Sally Lockhart Victorian mystery series. Gripping plot, good character development, just as good as the first in the series!
12. The Big Four by Agatha Christie: a novel about Hercule Poirot's encounters with the criminal gang, ... Shadow in the North by Philip Pullman. This is the second in the Sally Lockhart mysteries. This book, though still a quick, ya-type read, is even darker than the first, with grim endings for some good guys and bad guys alike.
The Man Who Was Poe by Avi. A dark fable about a young boy in ... ... loved the Spellman Files books - the characters are great, although rather dysfunctional!

The second book in the Sally Lockhart series was entertaining, but darker than the first book... and at a few points, I was quite saddened with the direction things went with a few characters. Either way, I can see myself reaching ... ... duction.
Talking about Billie Piper - has any US channel shown the Philip Pullman adaptations - The Ruby in the Smoke & The Shadow in the North?
For costume drama lovers, BBC have another one showing now, Lark Rise to Candleford. ... from the Go Review That Book group. So far, so good, although I'm only about 20 pages in.
Still hacking away at The Shadow in the North on audiobook. Bleh. ... night (loved it), and started Geek Love for a few pages before bed.
I'm also still picking away at the audiobook of The Shadow in the North. Partly I've been busy, but mostly I'm just not that interested, so I'm only listening to maybe 10-15 minutes of it a day. I should probably just ... ... take long, though (it's a very quick read!), and next up on the pile is Atonement by Ian McEwan.
Still listening to The Shadow in the North by Philip Pullman, and for some reason I'm just not particularly invested in it yet. ... so they'll be fresh in my mind so I can see just how much the movie gets wrong. :)
I am smack in the middle of the Shadow in the North, the second Sally Lockheart book. Thus far, HDM is definitely the better series... The first Sally Lockheart book had a really good set-up, and really ... ... the Uglies trilogy, yesterday afternoon, although that shouldn't take more than another day or two.
I'm listening to The Shadow in the North, the second in the Sally Lockheart Mysteries series, but I'm not terribly invested in it.
The Sally Lockhart quartet really surprised me. She's a great role model for young girls. Pullman rocks. High Times in the Middle of Nowhere by Murray Laurence

Now returning to Shadow in the North, which I put aside (er, for the evening...) while I read Twilight. Kira - Thanks! I really liked Ruby in the Smoke, and so far I'm really liking Shadow in the North, too :) I'm reading Shadow in the North by Philip Pullman, and probably when I finish it I will go on to read The Tiger in the Well and The Tin Princess, since I have them. ... pages (25.59%)
